KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World! is a masterfully created comedy anime by Natsume Akatsuki. The anime has been nominated for numerous categories through the years, including Best Comedy and Best in Adaptation. Many have chosen to watch the series hoping to find the usual plot of the isekai series like in Sword Art Online. But later on, realized how a gem it is during the first episode of season one because of how different it is.
One of the many reasons why isekai animes easily rose to immense popularity is the life that awaits them in the fantasy world. Characters who get reincarnated tend to live a more adventurous and fun isekai life compared to their previous one. Therefore, when KonoSuba came out in 2016, many were hoping to see another version of an overpowered isekai hero who gets transported to the fantasy land.
However, they got to see a brand new way of retelling the life of someone who got isekaid. Instead of the usual mixture of action, drama, and harem, KonoSuba decided to take a different part. This is by mocking the number of usual tropes that got fans hooked and entertained throughout the series. Therefore, here are the 10 reasons why KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World! is the funniest isekai anime up until today:

1. Kazuma Satou Is Not Your Typical Isekai Hero
For starters, Kazuma Satou is not an overpowered hero with a long line of girls fighting for his attention. At the beginning of the series, you would think that you’re watching another typical protagonist of an isekai anime. Kazuma Satou started out as a Neet that usually spend all-nighters playing games online. On one of the rarest occasions of him leaving his house, Kazuma had the courage to exchange his life for someone. Instead of going to heaven, he chose to be reincarnated in a fantasy world. When Kazuma arrived with Aqua in the fantasy world, he wasn’t a welcomed hero with a lavish lifestyle in exchange for defeating the Demon King.
Kazuma was just an average adventurer who is neither too strong, too weak, good, nor evil. At first, he was ecstatic about becoming an adventurer in the fantasy world. But, eventually finds it ridiculous because of how his isekai life turned out. Kazuma is sarcastic, blunt, lazy, and pessimistic. What he often wants is to just get through the day without any addition to his piled-up problems. However, not everything about him is bad. He also shows his party members a hint of understanding and care despite their silliest lacking and misgivings. He has a realistic mindset and a relatable attitude when dealing with his problems. Therefore, making him the funniest isekai protagonist.
2. Kazuma’s Party Members Are Admired for Their Flaws
KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World! not only features the unusual Kazuma Satou who fell short in the fantasy world. But, his party members also had flaws that made it harder for their team to get by. The party members of Kazuma Satou are three girls who were added to his life as a burden instead of live-savers. Aqua, Darkness, and Megumin’s personalities are straightforward which makes them funny.
From the day they joined Kazuma’s journey in defeating the Demon King, they showed their true characters. They are obnoxious in their own ways, but this quality of theirs just makes them more lovable and funny. Though they might not be the strongest party yet because of their lack of focus and determination. Kazuma and his party members show that they trust each other and can rely on one another during critical moments. That is why instead of hating them for their flaws, fans chose to laugh with them as they create their own problems and solve them as a team.
3. KonoSuba Voice Actors are Spectacularly Amazing
Anime shows like KonoSuba does not solely rely on great animation, but also on voice actors. They are responsible for communicating to the viewers the emotion of the characters, whether it may be excitement or sadness, to to the viewers. In KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World! the jokes and parodies featured in the anime are already funny.
However, the voice actors of the series made all of it more immaculately funny. The talent that a voice actor puts into a character greatly affects how the character will turn out for the viewers. And the voice actors in KonoSuba, specifically for subbed, stood up to the animes goal of making it one of the funniest isekai anime of all time.

4. A Cynical and Drunkard Goddess
As mentioned, characters in KonoSuba are imperfect but funny in their own way. Aqua is the Goddess in charge of Kazuma Satou’s reincarnation. She seemed like a decent Goddess at first; however, she showed her true colors when she laughed at how Kazuma died. Instead of being a kind and pleasant Goddess, Aqua ridiculed Kazuma which made him choose her as the one power he gets to take in the fantasy world. Aqua is indeed a powerful and superior Goddess; however, she overdoes everything sometimes leading to more problems for her team.
For instance, she can cast a sea of water to defeat their enemies; but ends up destroying more than she can save. Moreover, Aqua learned to enjoy the fantasy world that she becomes addicted to booze and flooded with debt. Aqua’s reckless actions in the series make it hard for the other characters to believe that she is actually the Goddess she proclaimed herself to be. In fact, even her own followers do not see her as the one they worship and think she’s just a crazy woman imitating the Goddess. Aqua is a character who offers her comedy to the viewers through her gullible personality and troublesome character.
5. Poverty Challenges the Characters’ Will and Determination
KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World! shows that poverty is something that even reincarnated characters go through. Kazuma Satou never had the chance to enjoy his life as an adventurer in the fantasy world because of trying to get by. As an adventurer at the beginner level, Kazuma Satou has average abilities and struggles in searching for financially stable quests. Kazuma and Aqua’s unstable financial income made them live in a barn house that offers no comfort at all. Because of all their miseries, Kazuma and Aqua didn’t hesitate to become builders in the earlier days of their life in the fantasy world.
Toward the end of episode one in season one, we saw how the two managed to have food to eat and even shelter because of how hard they worked. This scene of them working hard as builders might be funny because of how it portrays the life of an isekai hero and a Goddess. However, it goes to show that KonoSuba is an anime that breaks the tropes. Even Kazuma refers to his title as an adventurer like a job with a minimum wage. Will they have a more suitable lifestyle? Yes, but the comedic protagonist is someone who is hardworking and determined when poor, but lazy when rich.
6. An Explosion Obsessed Arch Wizard that has No Self Control
This is the girl who unexpectedly became the fans’ favorite character in the series. Megumin is considered to be the best girl for most viewers because among all her party members she seems to be the only level-headed one. Despite being the youngest, Megumin shows that she is the most capable one in the group, be it on a battlefield or just in their day-to-day life. But, Megumin is not the best girl in this anime only for this reason. Megumin has long conveyed her obsession with explosion magics.
Megumin is selfish and has little to no self-control when it comes to developing her explosions. Even when the Demon King’s General, Beldia, complains about his castle being wrecked by her non-stop explosions. Megumin refused to listen and continued it despite Beldia coming after them. Moreover, one entertaining characteristic of Megumin is that she is unstoppable. Casting her huge explosion spells requires a lot of mana resulting in her losing all of her strength after casting it once. However, this is no reason for her to give up for she views her explosions as the one superior to all types of spells. She is eccentric and noisy at times but often acts as a bully to Yunyun by playing tricks on her.
7. The Enemies and Quest in KonoSuba is Hilariously Funny
This anime is not only funny because of Kazuma and his party members. A key factor of this series is that the comedic part of each scene is also because of the worth laughing influence of the quests and antagonists. Kazuma and his party members are located in a guild for adventurers at the beginner level. Hence, it is expected for them to not fight the Demon King right away. But, what wasn’t expected is the silly quest that they have to face in order to boost their levels or just to have some money. We have seen Aqua, Megumin, and Darkness almost getting swallowed by humongous toads they aim to slaughter in the countryside for some cash.

They also fought with flying cabbages that even Kazuma finds insanely weird because his expectation seemed to be higher than what he got. Kazuma may not be a strong hero, but fighting or catching cabbages for extra income got him all fired up. Moreover, the antagonists aren’t that great to be honest if you compare them to other isekai villains.
However, they are hilariously funny as well. Beldia, one of the Generals of the Devil King, ends up getting his head played as a football for the adventurers. Also, Beldia might even have more patience than Aqua because of waiting for Megumin to come to his castle instead of attacking her. He is funny in his own right, a closet pervert for sure, but is not a heartless villain.
8. Konosuba Features a Goddess Who Wears a Breast Pad
This might be an unnecessary piece of information not needed to be broadcast. But, you read it right, KonoSuba also has a Goddess who wears a breast pad. Eris is known to be the Goddess of Fortune. She was introduced in the series when Kazuma died in the midst of a quest. Eris is the complete opposite of Aqua as a Goddess. She is gentle, kind, and respectful, especially to her senpai, Aqua. Kazuma has shown interest in Eris and has defended her from Aqua’s mockery. However, Eris was too obedient not to follow her senpai’s wish despite Aqua almost making her cry.
In addition, Eris is also an established Goddess with an adequate amount of followers. But, what they do not know is that despite her innocence and kind appearance the Goddess has things she is insecure about. Eris may have been blessed in beauty and character, but she lacks something and tries to compensate for it. Eris has small breast that makes her really insecure and conscious; thus, she uses breast pads to make up for them. But, her senpai doesn’t seem to understand that it is a secret she wants to keep for herself. The fact that she uses breast pads is always the best way to make her fold and follow Aqua’s demands.
9. A Rich Masocshit Crusader Named Lalatina
Darkness or Dustiness Ford Lalatina is the crusader of Kazuma’s party. At first, Kazuma was star-struck because of her Goddess-like beauty. But, like the other protagonist in the series, Darkness is also a character who shouldn’t judge based on her appearance. When Darkness introduced herself to Kazuma, it is as if a reliable and powerful crusader is finally willing to join his hopeless party. At first glance, Darkness seemed to be a tough and honorable knight who wanted to join Kazuma’s team without any ulterior motives.
Although she is truly honorable, Darkness is a masochist who finds pleasure in pain. Out of all the members of her party, Darkness is hailed as the hero for choosing to act selflessly even though she ends up badly wounded or with ripped clothes. What the bystanders during their battles do not know is that she wants to genuinely protect the others, but also wants the pain that comes with being their shield. She has a high stamina and immense strength, but literally sucks in swordplay despite being a crusader. As Darkness becomes closer to Kazuma and the gang, she little by little shows her true intention in being a crusader which is to someday be tortured by the Devil King himself solely for pleasure.
10. Panty Thief is a Skill in KonoSuba
Stealing a girl’s underwear isn’t supposed to be funny, but it actually is KonoSuba. If all the characters in KonoSuba were ranked according to their strength, Kazuma Satou would probably be placed in the lower part of the ranking. Instead of acquiring skills that will make him the strongest character, he chose to have the one that makes him funnier and more popular with his fellow silly men. Chris decided to teach Kazuma one of her skills called stealing which later on becomes Kazume’s most used spell.
But, instead of stealing a valuable item that he can actually sell from Chris, Kazuma ends up stealing the girl’s underwear. This newly acquired skill of Kazuma benefited him too because he got to have his money back that Chris stole and all of her money in exchange for her underwear. Moreover, during a fun night in their guild where everyone was drinking booze, Kazuma again stole underwear for popularity purposes. Because everyone was chanting for him to steal underwear, Kazuma being the most unusual character confidently adheres to the people’s demand and stole Chris’s underwear again who only wanted to join the celebration. Kazuma is surely someone who is easily influenced, but he also keeps his steal spell in good use sometimes, especially when his party members’ lives are at stake.
