Chainsaw Man has been a popular choice among fans whether it be as an Anime Adaptation or in the manga. Because of the uniqueness of its storyline, many shounen anime fans are hooked and are waiting for the next parts of the story as it progresses. However, even amidst the satisfaction, some die-hard fans still were left unsatisfied especially with the important details of the Anime
On Tuesday, an online fan petition to “redo” the Chainsaw Man anime reached 2,000 signatures. The petition requests that the anime be restarted with a different director, citing discontent with the adaptation choices.
The anime, according to the petition writer, is troubling because the film-like direction weakens the manga’s intensity and comic qualities. The writer cites Denji’s lines from episode 1 as well as adjustments to Kobeni‘s battle scene in episode 9 as examples of the director “misinterpreting the themes and foreshadowing in the original work.
The petition goes on to criticize the anime’s pacing, claiming that “too much time is spent before the Samurai Sword storyline.” It also critiques Kikunosuke Toya’s casting as Denji, claiming that his portrayal is “too dismal and doesn’t express how deranged Denji is.
The petition will be accepted until December 31.
Here are the reaction of the fans to the alleged petition:
On October 11, the anime debuted on TV Tokyo and five additional associated channels, as well as on Amazon Prime Video. Crunchyroll is now streaming the anime in over 200 regions and territories worldwide.
The anime was directed by Ryuu Nakayama (Black Clover, Jujutsu Kaisen episode director) at MAPPA, and the scripts were written by Hiroshi Seko (Ajin, Attack on Titan The Final Season). The characters were developed by Kazutaka Sugiyama (Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation). Kensuke Ushio composed the soundtrack (DEVILMAN crybaby, Liz and the Blue Bird, A Silent Voice).
The opening theme music, “KICK BACK,” was sung by Kenshi Yonezu. There were 12 ending theme songs in the anime, one for each episode.
