Attack on Titan has yet again demonstrated how big it could get after its Final Season Part Two opening amassed over 57 million views since its release in January. According to digital agency AnalyzeLog Inc., the staggering numbers made the video the most viewed anime clip on Youtube in 2022, besting Chainsaw Man‘s opening and main trailer.

The Attack on Titan Final Season Part 2 non-credit opening video was first released on January 9, the same day the season’s Part 2 premiered on the NHK General channel. It lasts for a minute and 30 seconds and features the opening theme “The Rumbling” by Japanese rock band SiM.

Based on the best-selling manga by Hajime Isayama, Attack on Titan was first launched in Kodansha’s Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine in 2009. Its story was described as follows:

Several hundred years ago, humans were nearly exterminated by giants. Giants are typically several stories tall, seem to have no intelligence, devour human beings and, worst of all, seem to do it for the pleasure rather than as a food source. A small percentage of humanity survived by enclosing themselves in a city protected by extremely high walls, even taller than the biggest of giants. Flash forward to the present and the city has not seen a giant in over 100 years. Teenage boy Eren and his foster sister Mikasa witness something horrific as the city walls are destroyed by a super giant that appears out of thin air. As the smaller giants flood the city, the two kids watch in horror as their mother is eaten alive. Eren vows that he will murder every single giant and take revenge for all of mankind.

The manga inspired a TV anime in April of 2013. The Attack on Titan The Final Season marks the concluding arc of the series and was divided into three parts. The first one premiered in 2020, followed by the second part in 2022. Fans are now awaiting for the third part of the season, which is scheduled to debut in 2023.

Other Winners

Coming in second place in terms of the most number of views on YouTube is Chainsaw Man‘s non-credit opening, which garnered over 54 million views. The video previews the opening theme “KICK BACK” by Kenshi Yonezu.

Chainsaw Man is based on the hit shonen manga written and illustrated by Tatsuki Fujimoto. Crunchyroll describes the series as follows:

Denji is a teenage boy living with a Chainsaw Devil named Pochita. Due to the debt his father left behind, he has been living a rock-bottom life while repaying his debt by harvesting devil corpses with Pochita.

One day, Denji is betrayed and killed. As his consciousness fades, he makes a contract with Pochita and gets revived as “Chainsaw Man” — a man with a devil’s heart.

The third place was yet again secured by the Attack on Titan anime franchise, this time, through its Attack on Titan Final Season Part 2 non-credit ending movie. The video amassed nearly 20 million views since its release in January.

Other video that made it into the list of most viewed anime clips on YouTube include the Chainsaw Man main trailer with over 15 million views. Said video was dubbed to be the most viewed anime trailer in history.

Next in line is the Chainsaw Man Episode 3 non-credit opening, with more than 15 million views in its record. It was followed by the SPY × FAMILY first opening with over 14 million views, and the Ya Boy Kongming! non-credit opening movie with passed 13 million views.

SPY X FAMILY is based on a manga written and illustrated by Tatsuya Endo. Crunchyroll streamed the first season of the anime. It describes the series as such:

World peace is at stake and secret agent Twilight must undergo his most difficult mission yet—pretend to be a family man. Posing as a loving husband and father, he’ll infiltrate an elite school to get close to a high-profile politician. He has the perfect cover, except his wife’s a deadly assassin and neither knows each other’s identity. But someone does, his adopted daughter who’s a telepath!

Meanwhile, Ya Boy Kongming! was inspired by a manga written by Yuto Yotsuba and illustrated by Ryō Ogawa. HIDIVE streamed the anime and descrbies the series as follows:

Fate and reincarnation deliver brilliant military strategist, Kongming, from warring, ancient China to Japan’s modern party hot spot in Shibuya City, Tokyo. After a lifetime of battles and military skirmishes, Kongming wished with his last breath to be reborn in a world of peace and prosperity. It’s nearly two millennia later and he’s finding his way in a very different world than that of his past life. When he meets Eiko, an amateur musician with big dreams, the unlikely duo strikes up an even unlikelier friendship. Eiko has street smarts to help Kongming navigate this strange new world, and Kongming will use his strategic mind to help Eiko achieve stardom! The story is a clever take (and smart twist) on fish-out-of-water and person-out-of-time themes with out-of-this-world results for Ya Boy Kongming!
