Blue Lock is a Television Anime series based on the original manga by Yusuke Nomura and Muneyuki Kaneshiro. It is a sports anime that is currently going on Netflix and it is part of the 2022 Fall Anime Line up. Though the anime and the manga are pretty suggestive, there is no plotline that revolves around romance at this time.
Blue Lock is about an eccentric coach named Jinpachi Ego who is hired to help Japan win the World Cup. To accomplish this, Jinpachi launches the Blue Lock program, a prison-like facility where 300 outstanding footballers from high schools around Japan are segregated and called to compete against one another.
Blue Lock will become the National Japanese team’s striker if he survives. Meanwhile, those who are ousted will be barred from ever rejoining the team. Yoichi Isagi, a striker who failed to carry his high school soccer team to the national tournament, is among those who join the Blue Lock program. Yoichi is now resolved to become the finest striker possible and make the national squad.
Blue Lock’s manga is especially sexual and suggestive. It’s to a point where there is a certain member of a team that shouts a very inappropriate sentence when he scored a goal. Pretty sure that part is yet to be animated. Many fans are loving this fanservice though, it adds a little spice to an already interesting sports anime, and at the same time, it gives the characters their own uniqueness as well.

At this point in both the manga and the anime, there is no element (or at least, canon element) of romance to be seen. However, if it does develop into a sports anime that has the element of romance some fans are looking forward to seeing, it probably will be in the form of BL and the cliche plotline of forced proximity.
But honestly, Blue Lock is amazing on its own and its plot is an incredible mix of sports and shounen which isn’t really seen much in sports anime. The television anime is still ongoing and can be watched on Netflix.
