The official Twitter account for the Bocchi the Rock! anime revealed the titles of the two compilation films that will be released in 2024 on Monday. The first film, Bocchi the Rock! Re:, will debut in Japan in spring, while the second film, Bocchi the Rock! Re:Re:, is scheduled for a summer release.
The anime is based on Aki Hamaji’s four-panel manga Bocchi the Rock!, which tells the story of Hitori “Bocchi-chan” (“Loner”) Gotō, a high school girl who loves playing guitar but has no friends. She meets Nijika Ijichi, who invites her to join her band named “Kessoku Band.”

The main cast of the television anime includes:
- Yoshino Aoyama as Hitori “Bocchi-chan” (“Loner”) Gotō
- Sayumi Suzushiro as Nijika Ijichi
- Saku Mizuno as Ryо̄ Yamada
- Ikumi Hasegawa as Ikuyo Kita
Keiichirō Saitō (ACCA: 13-Territory Inspection Dept. Regards) directed the anime at CloverWorks. Erika Yoshida (Lupin III: Part IV) supervised and wrote the series scripts. Kerorira (animation director for Wonder Egg Priority) designed the characters.
The anime premiered on Tokyo MX, BS11, Gunma TV, Tochigi TV, MRT Miyazaki Broadcasting, MBS, RKB Mainichi Broadcasting, and AT-X in October 2022. Crunchyroll streamed the anime online.
The anime’s “Kessoku Band” with Ikumi Hasegawa (voice of Ikuyo Kita) as the vocalist performed the opening and ending songs. Ai Higuchi wrote the lyrics and -otoha-, a member of the musical group 48foureight, composed the music for the opening song titled “Seishun Complex” (Youth Complex). Maguro Taniguchi, the vocalist and guitarist of the band KANA-BOON, wrote and composed the ending song titled “Distortion!!”
Hamaji started the manga in Houbunsha’s Manga Time Kirara Max magazine in December 2017 and it is still ongoing.
