BOFURI Anime Season 1 Recap
The season 1 of BOFURI: I Don’t Want to Get Hurt, So I’ll Max Out My Defense aired from January 8 to March 25, 2020 with 12 episodes. It premiered on selected Japanese broadcast channels: AT-X, Tokyo MX, TV Aichi, ABC TV, and BS 11. It also streamed on Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, Hulu, Crunchyroll, and many more.
Season 1’s story is about Kaede Honjou, who is invited to join a massive multiplayer virtual reality game, “New World Online” by a very enthusiastic friend, Risa Shiromine. Kaede then named her character in-game as “Maple”, while Risa’s name is “Sally”. Maple did not have many experiences in games, so she feared being in pain. She spent her time maximizing her defense stats, neglecting her other stats.
Hence, while she remains invulnerable, she cannot move fast or inflict much damage on her opponents. But Maple’s high defense made her immune to poison, and eventually able to kill opponents in a single hit. She gained the reputation of someone who cannot be killed and is very powerful. Along the way, she made friends and embarked on many adventures. She can possibly pick up new skills too to make her stronger.
