KADOKAWA announced that there will be an anime adaptation of Hiroyuki Nakao’s Bullbuster franchise! It is going to premiere sometime in 2023. The main cast, character and key visuals have also been revealed. Studio NUT will be producing the anime.
There are no announcements yet on when it is going to air in 2023, so the official Twitter and website will be updating this very soon!
Hiroyuki Nakao and P.I.C.S. are both credited for creating Bullbuster. Hiroyasu Aoki will be the anime series’ director and scriptwriter. Eisaku Kubonouchi is the manga creator, hence the original character designer. Kubonouchi’s designs will be animated by Takahisa Katagiri, while Junji Okubo is in-charge of mechanic designs.
Bullbuster Anime Synopsis
Tetsurou Okino is an engineer who has developed a new robot, Bullbuster. He is then transferred to Hato Industries, a company that dispatches harmful animals. The company is currently wrestling with a problem against a mysterious life form, Kyojū. To make things worse, the company is also experiencing financial struggles, which is an obstacle for eliminating Kyojū. What will they intend to do in order to fulfill their goal with the harsh reality of economy?

The visual’s upper panel featured Kouji Tajima, the head of the Hato Industries. The 6 main characters in the lower panel are employees in Hato Industries. They are (from left to right): Kintarou, Ginnosuke, Kouji, Tetsurou, Arumi, and Miyuki. These 6 are very crucial in keeping Hato Industries afloat, which is why Kouji seemingly holds them in a high regard.
Bullbuster Franchise Background
Bullbuster is centered around the concept of an “economically legitimate robot hero story”. KADOKAWA has published the 1st volume of the Bullbuster light novel in December 2018. The 2nd volume got released last September 2019.
There is also an audio drama of Bullbuster, which started on KADOKAWA’s official YouTube channel last April 2022. As of July 2022, there are 8 episodes of the audio drama. The cast of this audio drama is the same as the anime.
