Classic 80s Manga Heart Cocktail Gets Unexpected Anime Adaptation By NHK

By Janiene LerioJanuary 18, 2023

NHK announced on January 9 that two new anime will debut in February and March on the NHK General and NHK Educational channels. The Heart Cocktail Colorful anime will premiere five episodes on NHK General and Shuwawan! in late February. The first three episodes will air in late March, with the remaining episodes airing in April or later.

Check out the teaser photo of The Heart Cocktail Colorful Anime here:

Heart Cocktail Colorful is based on Seizou Watase’s Heart Cocktail manga, which was published in 11 volumes in the 1980s. The full-color manga told love stories set in cities. The new series will continue to tell love stories, but this time they will be set in the present. A love story with an age difference, a love story between two people who cannot meet due to the pandemic, and the love of a single mother will be among the stories told.

Kazuya Kamenashi, Tamiyoshi Okuda, and Hikari Mitsushima will appear in the anime.

From 1986 to 1988, the manga inspired a television anime adaptation. Okuda also played a character in that anime.

Shuwawan in five minutes! Is another one of the anime which will be premiered by NHK during February and late March. The series follows the family life of Harumichi Sait, a real-life photographer, and essayist.

Here’s a teaser photo of the Shuwawan in Five Minutes! Series:

Sait and his wife are both deaf, but his children are hearing, so the family communicates through sign language (“sign language” in Japanese is “shuwa”). The NHK anime will be based on Sait’s own Ikuji Manga Nikki (Child-rearing Manga Diary).

Harumichi will be voiced by actor Masataka Kubota in the anime.

Looks like the Spring Anime season is slowly bringing in more and more series to watch and binge. Have you decided on what to watch yet? Or are you still trying to keep up with the Winter Anime season? Tell us your thoughts!
