Deku, also known as Izuku Midoriya, has some extremely powerful powers. Some of which you may not be aware of. Ever since Kohei Horikoshi’s My Hero Academia was brought into the spotlight, many have been fascinated by the anime’s world filled with Quirks, Heroes, and Villains alike. However, those who aren’t foreign to these words may find it odd to think that the main protagonist of the series started off as someone who had no quirk at all.
What is a ‘Quirk’?
In the My Hero Academia universe, approximately 80% of the population of the whole population has quirks. It was introduced during the first episode of the series that there was once a baby who had genetic mutations, and those mutations were a superhuman ability that enabled the baby to execute a power that no man has ever seen before.
Ever since superhuman abilities continuously appeared when babies were born, and later on, they were known as ‘quirks.’ However, there are still those unfortunate people who were not born with quirks. They are an extremely rare kind, and they are mostly looked down on by society as being quirkless meant that they did not advance as swiftly and as progressively as the rest.

One of these unfortunate people is our main protagonist, Izuku Midoriya. A middle school (season 1, before the UA test) student whose biggest dream is to become the #1 Hero just like his Idol, All-might. Quirks usually show up right before you turn 5, or 7 if it’s late. However, in the case of Izuku Midoriya, they never showed up. He waited and waited, but the quirks just never came.

Is Deku Quirkless?
Technically, he should be. However, fate must be on his side, as one day, Izuku Midoriya comes across the hero he has looked forward to all his life: All Might. All Might was the mightiest hero of this era. He saved countless people and defeated villains more than the mind could ever comprehend, but his powers were fading.
Because of Midoriya’s gallant behavior of saving Katsuki Bakugou, his friend, All Might decided to pass on his quirk to Midoriya, the only quirk that has been passed on from generations before.

This, of course, shocked Midoriya to the core. But, inheriting a quirk as strong as the One For All required meticulous training and strength. To be able to handle the quirk, All Might trained Midoriya all summer long, and he was given the One For All right before his entrance exam at UA, the prestigious hero school.
How Many Quirks does Deku (Midoriya) Have?
Midoriya only has one quirk. The One For All. However, because of a recent battle in UA, we find out that within the One For All are many other quirks yet-to-be-discovered.
The One For All is a quirk that is passed down from one user to another. It is the good counterpart of the evil quirk used by the Villain Association: One For All. The only difference is that One For All has not been passed down, instead, it can accumulate the quirks of the powerful heroes it defeats.
One For All, on the other hand, accumulates the quirks of its previous users, which allows the current user to utilize any of the quirks at his own disposal. Neither Midoriya nor All Might knew of this.
In the anime, Midoriya has awakened two other quirks aside from One For All. These quirks were used by his ‘ancestors’ or the ones who inherited the One For All before him. The first of the other two quirks is Blackwhip. Black whip was from former One For All wielder, Daigoro Banjo.

This quirk first appeared when Midoriya was desperately trying to save Ochaco Uraraka during a fight with other schools. Balckwhip allows Midoriya to generate black, vein-like extensions from anywhere in his body. It is possible to generate many ‘whips’ or extensions all at once to perform different tasks.
However, the Blackwhip has a drawback. The user’s mental stability and emotional state greatly affect its strength. This is why in the current arc of the anime, Midoriya barely has any control over it as he is not confident and prepared enough to wield it yet.
The other minor included in the One For All is called transference. It is the ability of the user to transfer the quirk to whoever he recognizes is suitable for the job. Just like how All Might transferred the quirk to Midoriya, Midoriya will also have the right to transfer it to the heir he chooses next.
Does Midoriya Have Any Other Quirks Aside from the One For All?
As what is mentioned above, One For All has many inherent quirks. In the current arc of the Manga, Midoriya already has used 7 of the quirks hidden inside the One For All.
He used it on different occasions and has defeated multiple enemies with his quirks. However, these different quirks are yet-to-be-revealed in the anime.

My Hero Academia’s 6th Season is set to premiere on October 01, 2022. The season might reveal more exciting facts about One For All and how Deku (Midoriya) manages to control all the quirks utilized by its previous users.
