In the world of demons, one can ascend the ranks by demonstrating remarkable abilities and accomplishments that align with the standards of the rank. Ten distinct quantitative rankings, each composed of Hebrew letters, comprise the ranking system. These symbols serve to classify a demon’s position in the demon world, with the highest ranks reserved for the most formidable and influential demons.
Note that the rank of a demon determines their status, reflecting their strength, reputation, and authority in the demon community. Thus, the ranking system serves as a tool for measuring and determining a demon’s power and prestige, and achieving a high rank is a coveted achievement in the world of demons.

How Do Demons Get Their Ranking?
Upon starting their education at Babyls Academy, every student begins in a neutral, unranked state. During their initial days in school, these students are placed in classes and subjected to various tests to determine their ranking. Examples of such tests include the demon-familiar summoning exam (featured in episode 2 of season 1) and the racing exam (featured in episode 4 of season 1). Following these evaluations, each student is ranked by an owl specially designated for the task. This ranking process is crucial for establishing a student’s position within the academy and the demon world, providing a measure of their abilities and accomplishments. By undergoing these tests and being ranked, students are given a sense of direction and a clear understanding of their strengths and weaknesses, enabling them to focus on their skills and develop their potential further.
Constantly monitoring the actions of the students. In order to obtain their ranking, students must place their hands on the owl’s front pouch. In episode 5 of season 1, Alice received the rank of Daleth (rank 4), while Clara was ranked Gimmel (rank 3). Interestingly, Iruma’s interaction with the ranking owl was unique. Although the owl did not provide him with a rank, it did cry and left the ring of gluttony in Iruma’s middle finger.

Kalego emphasizes that the ranking owl is strict and just, whose decision-making process remains unbiased and unaffected by external factors. In fact, the owl has never once shown any signs of emotion or error in its hundred-year tenure. This unexpected turn of events is one of the many intriguing moments in Welcome to Demon School, Iruma-kun, which keeps fans on the edge of their seats, eager to learn more about the mysterious and unpredictable Iruma.
Aside from the initial ranking process, there are numerous other opportunities for students to increase their ranks. The series explores these opportunities throughout various arcs and episodes, such as the Cannonball Execution, the Division Party, the First Term Final Exams, the Harvest Festival, and the Music Festival. Each of these events has its unique contributing factors and procedures for rank improvement, presenting students with a range of challenges and obstacles to overcome.
