Detective Conan: The Culprit Hanzawa Manga Background

Mayuko Kanba is the author and illustrator of Detective Conan: The Culprit Hanzawa spin-off manga. It serialized on Shogakukan’s Weekly Shounen Sunday S magazine in July 2017. It underwent a hiatus in May 2020, and resumed publication later in December 2020. Shogakukan also publishes the manga in a paperback and e-book format, with the 1st volume released last December 2017. As of September 2022, there are 7 volumes published.

The manga received recognition in the Nationwide Bookstore Employees’ Recommended Comics of 2018, securing the 14th spot. As of November 2018, the manga has sold over 1 million copies. This was helped by the fact the spin-off came from the famous Detective Conan/Case Closed manga series.

Detective Conan or Case Closed manga has been around since 1994. It follows the story of a high school detective named Shinichi Kudou, who is hailed as the savior of the Japanese police department. His prodigy is quite astounding. However, an incident with two men caused him to ingest poison which reverted him to having a childlike body. He then adapted a new identity by the name of Conan Edogawa, to live a new life as a 7 year old. His intelligence remained intact despite this change, so he continues to solve cases. He also wants to pursue the men who poisoned him so that he can return to his original body.
