Ruby did become an idol. Ruby Hoshino was born to be a star like her mother, Ai. For the dazzling Ruby Hoshino, the second one is a charm. This is because it took her two lifetimes to finally pursue the career path she always admired and wanted. To her luck, she also gained the appearance of the legendary Ai Hoshino of B-Komachi. This made her more suitable to be an idol, but will she achieve the same success as Ai?
The hit anime series, Oshi no Ko, written by Aka Akasaka and illustrated by Mengo Yokoyari, revolves around the life of the people in the entertainment industry. The anime became one of the vital shows that shed light on the dark and twisted lives that people in the spotlight have to go through solely for the bright and glittery popularity and life that they always wanted.
Although the sensational celebrity Ai Hoshino’s life and career ended at its peak, her daughter was determined to continue right where she left off. His brother, Aqua Hoshino, maybe so against the idea of her being an idol. However, she is trying to make the impossible possible. Ruby’s dream to become an idol is also the dream she inherited from her late mother and currently carrying from her past life.
Why Does Ruby Want to Be an Idol?
Ruby Hoshino is the reincarnation of a girl who was deprived of the beauty of life due to an illness. Oshi no Ko gained a lot of love and appreciation from fans not only because the series showed the dark side of the entertainment industry. The show also gained immense popularity because the story gave a new touch to the isekai genre.
The life of Ruby before being reincarnated is massively different from the life she is now living. Before being caught up with the twistedly challenging life of a rising idol, she was once a simple girl. However, her previous life wasn’t like most girls her age. This is because she was a 12-year-old fighting the brain tumor that got her. Despite having such a deadly illness, Sarina Tendouji (Ruby Hoshino) relied on idols, mainly Ai Hoshino, as one of her sources of inspiration.
As Sarina, she was passionate like most fans. By being a fan of Ai, her dull life became bright and colorful, particularly whenever she talked, listened to, and watched her. Unfortunately, even with her strong desire to continue living and become one of Ai’s fans, her sickness quickly stole her life from her. When reincarnated as one of Ai Hoshino’s children, Ruby, Sarina carried her dreams with her. This passion for being an idol became stronger when her mother herself expressed that it was her dream for her.

Ai may have died at the early stage of Aqua and Ruby’s life. However, she lived enough for her twins to love her more than anyone. Even with her short life, Ai was capable of helping her daughter overcome the trauma that she carried with her from her previous life. Due to Sarina’s illness, she was too weak and scared even to stand up or walk. This trauma did not go away nor heal even after being reincarnated.
In episode one of Oshi no Ko, when Ruby was in kindergarten, their class was tasked to perform a dance recital for the school. Due to her trauma, Ruby wasn’t confident enough to stand up or move her body.
She wasn’t able to practice and ended up remembering how devasting her life was. Fortunately, her mother helped her get through it. Ai guided and danced with her daughter, which allowed her to move her body smoothly and confidently. Trusting Ai Hoshino brought back the fire in her eyes to continue her dancing and dreaming of someday being an idol.
This dream was engraved in Ruby’s heart and mind because even in her mother’s last breath, she talked about Ruby becoming an idol. Also, one of her dreams was to have a mother-and-daughter performance with Ruby. Ruby Hoshino’s dream to become an idol was planted when she was still living as Sarina, but it bloomed when she became her idol’s daughter. Now she doesn’t only want to be an idol merely for herself. This time Ruby will do anything to become a top idol for her idol, at the same time, mother, Ai Hoshino.
How Did Ruby Become an Idol?
It wasn’t easy for Ruby to become an idol, especially with his twin brother, Aqua, getting in the way. When Ruby reached the age where she could finally start auditioning, she didn’t waste any of her time trying her luck.
Ruby and Aqua were not introduced to the world as Ai Hoshino’s children because it would have tarnished her reputation as a rising multimedia star, making her lose her dream and the means to support her children financially. Therefore, Ruby didn’t have the privilege that relatives of celebrities usually get when they want to be part of the entertainment industry.
Ruby Hoshino has the face and skill to be an idol. In fact, she would have almost secured a slot in the industry in her second audition if only her overprotective brother didn’t interfere. In episode two, Aqua disguised himself as one of the hiring staff of the agency where Ruby auditioned and informed her that she didn’t make the cut.
This devasted Ruby, but what she didn’t know was that it was her brother whom she talked to. Ruby passed the audition, but Aqua made sure by talking to the company and expressing his sister’s disinterest in continuing that she would not found about her passing the auditions.

Furthermore, he again went against her sister’s dream the second time by investigating the company that scouted her sister to be an idol. The determination in Ruby’s eyes didn’t escape Aqua; hence, he showed his support by working with Miyako Saitou to create a new girl group under Ichigo Production, including Ruby as one of its members.
Ichigo Production was once the company behind the popular B-Komachi, which Ai Hoshino was part of. The company is also being managed by their guardian, Miyako Saitou. Hence, both Aqua and Miyako’s minds would be at peace knowing that Ruby is not in any suspicious entertainment company or agency.
Thus, by being part of the same company that handled them over a decade ago, Ruby is set to follow her part as the future top idol. She will be with two equally talented and gorgeous where they will call themselves the newly formed B-Komachi.
All About B-Komachi Version 2.0
B-Komachi rose to popularity during Ai Hoshino’s peak. The group was one of the most highly anticipated and promising girl groups of their century. However, the death of Ai Hoshino greatly affected the group; hence, they were disbanded. The group B-Komachi is set to take its rightful throne after decades through its fewer, cuter, more talented, popular, and more eye-catching members.
Signing as one of the talents of the Ichigo Production did not mean that Ruby’s path to becoming an idol would smoothly be handled by the company and easily rise to fame, especially since no members were part of it aside from her. Ruby and Aqua enrolled themselves at the Youtou High School. They both passed. To be more specific, Aqua exceptionally passed the general department. On one hand, Ruby Hoshino got herself accepted into the entertainment department.
Coincidentally, they will meet a person in the school whom they met when they were young and will recruit her as one of the B-Komachi’s members. This girl is none other than Kana Arima. Moreover, while studying and investigating his mother’s death, Aqua will also take a project where he stars in a reality dating show where he will persuade a sensational Youtube star to join her sister’s girl group.
To get to know them more, here are the final members of B-Komachi version 2.0:
Kana Arima – The Ravishing Center
Above all the members of the new B-Komachi girl group, Kana Arima has the most experience. The twins, Aqua and Ruby, met Kana during Aqua’s first-ever acting project. Kana Arima was one of the most popular child stars. However, her popularity drastically fell as she aged. A one-hit wonder indeed. She may appear cocky sometimes, but deep inside is a girl who struggles with low self-esteem. However, knowing Kana, she doesn’t express her fears and doubts to anyone.
She was recruited as one of the members of B-Komachi through Aqua’s suggestion. Enrolling with a bunch of students in the entertainment industry at Youtou Highschool, Ruby felt scared of the other students calling her jobless. Thus, she insisted on finding another member for Ichigo Productions’ new girl group. Luckily, Kana Arima fitted perfectly the requirements needed for the new member since she was not under any other company. Kana was popular but was not frequently not booked. Also, she is talented and smart.
She agreed to be part of the group and frequently acted as the senpai among the three. Kana Arima may be the second oldest member, but her experience in the industry says otherwise. In addition, many might have assumed Ruby to be the center, but even Ruby believed that Kana was much more suited. She is cute, and she can sing and dance. Mem-cho and Ruby were more convinced to make her the center of their group after hearing Kana beautifully sing her song, Full Moon.

Ruby Hoshino – The Brightest Girl of B-Komachi
Ruby Hoshino has the face and personality to be B-Komachi’s center, just like her mother. She inherited the charm and looks of her mother. Ruby could have been the perfect center if only she could sing a little better like Arima. However, even though she is not the singer or center, Ruby Hoshino is a great dancer. Ruby Hoshino always had it in her, even when she was still Sarina and when she was still young. She was meant to be an idol like Ai Hoshino.
During their first performance at Japan Idol Festival, an original B-Komachi fan was present in the crowd. This fan was hesitant to support the group at first and said that the newly formed B-Komachi was nothing compared to the original, especially since they did not have someone like Ai Hoshino. After focusing his gaze on Ruby, the fan saw Ai in her and instantly became a fan. Ruby Hoshino’s innocence is one of her major charms. Her upbeat character and passion for idols make her the brightest member of the group. Therefore, her dream to someday be a top idol is not an unreachable dream.
Mem-cho – The Most Popular Member
In terms of knowledge of how social media and the life of an influencers work, Mem-cho is the expert among the three of them. Mem-cho is a popular Youtube influencer. She was cast as one of the stars of the LoveNow reality dating show, where she met Aqua. When the reality dating show was still airing, Aqua considered Mem-cho to be one of the greatest cast member in doing their roles, alongside Yuki Sumi.
Despite not being part of Ai Hoshino’s generation, Mem-cho was very much aware of the group. She admitted to Aqua that it was her long-time dream to be an idol. Hearing this made Aqua recruit her as one of the members of the newly formed B-Komachi. Mem-cho was under contract, where she could work on other jobs, including becoming an idol under Ichigo Production. She might be faking her age. But, this issue is very common in the entertainment industry, so Miyako did not have any problems with it.
Mem-cho deserves the popularity she has. Since she was young, she has never stopped working for her family’s sake. She worked non-stop in order to help support her brother’s studies and send them to college. Therefore, when she was free to go back to the entertainment industry at the age of 20, she was considered too old to become an idol. She entered the streaming industry and faked that she was still a high school student, which boosted her popularity. If not for Mem-cho, their first-every concert At JIF would not have that much of people, and it would not have been a complete success.
Will B-Komachi 2.0 Become Popular?
The newly formed B-Komachi had undergone much preparation before their first performance. Like most idols, they went through intense training in order to make everything close to perfection. They also collaborated with Youtube stars, such as Piyeon, to widen the range of their popularity. Through Aqua and Mem-cho’s connections with the producer of LoveNow, they were able to secure a spot at the Japan Idol Festival.
As part of their preparations, they also picked a light stick color that would represent them. Mem-cho picked yellow; Ruby chose Red because it was also her mom’s, and Kana picked white. During their debut performance, they sang two popular songs from the old B-Komachi group. The crowd during their performance in JIF was a sea of yellow light sticks. There were rarely red, more so, white lights sticks.
This made their center, Kana Arima, more anxious. Throughout the first songs, Kana kept on comparing herself to Mem-cho and Ruby, who were enjoying their performance. Fortunately, Aqua came to save the day and gave Kana the motivation she needed. This brought her confidence back, and she was able to perform better with the girls during their last number. The crowd loudly cheered for the new B-Komachi, and there is no doubt that the girls were able to gain new fans because of their spectacular performance.
The old B-Komachi was only being upheld because of Ai Hoshino. The newly formed group greatly differs from them because Kana, Ruby, and Mem-cho all have faces suitable for becoming the ace of a group. Their first performance was a total success. Hopefully, they will slowly gain the fame they wish their group to achieve so that Ruby will someday be the top idol she always wanted to be for herself and her mother.
