Disney to Exclusively Stream Tokyo Revengers Sequel Premiering January

By Janiene LerioNovember 30, 2022

At its Asia-Pacific content event on Wednesday, Disney revealed that it will exclusively broadcast the Tokyo Revengers: Christmas Showdown sequel anime this winter. Starting in January, the anime will be available only on Disney+ and Disney+ Hotstar in Asia, however prior anime titles have been available in other areas on Disney’s other platforms. This is part of Disney+ and Kodansha’s expanding cooperation, which also includes the licensing of exclusive anime series based on Kodansha manga.

Check out the teaser here:

Kodansha is the official English Publisher of the manga, and it describes the story:

Watching the news, Takemichi Hanagaki learns that his girlfriend from way back in middle school, Hinata Tachibana, has died. The only girlfriend he ever had was just killed by a villainous group known as the Tokyo Manji Gang. He lives in a crappy apartment with thin walls, and his six-years-younger boss treats him like an idiot. Plus, he’s a complete and total virgin … At the height of his rock-bottom life, he suddenly time-leaps twelve years back to his middle school days!! To save Hinata, and change the life he spent running away, hopeless part-timer Takemichi must aim for the top of Kanto’s most sinister delinquent gang!!

In Japan, the anime will be broadcast in January on MBS, TV Tokyo, and AT-X. Mikako Komatsu as Yuzuha Shiba and Tomokazu Sugita as Taiju Shiba are new additions to the anime cast.

In April 2021, the first television anime adaption based on Ken Wakui’s Tokyo Revengers manga debuted. Crunchyroll broadcast the anime live as it aired in Japan.

In March 2017, Ken Wakui published the manga in Weekly Shonen Magazine. The manga’s serialization stopped on November 16. On November 17, Kodansha released the manga’s 30th and final compiled book volume.

Wakui plans to release a special arc for the manga in November 2023, and his Tokyo Revengers Extra offshoot manga will run in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine.

In July 2021, a live-action picture was released in Japan and became the number-one live-action film in the country. The sequel will be released in two parts in the spring and summer of 2023.
