Netflix’s Newest Korean Animation, Lookism tackles a very crucial and disturbing issue in society today: Bullying. The show’s protagonist is Park Hyeong-seok, a high school student who is looked down on because of his appearance. One day, as if by a miracle, Hyeongseok gets transformed–more like divided–into two bodies, one handsome one, and the other the “ugly” one. He lives his life every day keeping this separation a secret from his peers.
So far, Netflix has only released one season, and as far as the first season goes, no one knows about the secret that Park Hyeongseok holds. However, towards the end of the season, literally at the last second, it is hinted that there might be more people who hold the same secret as him, and here’s why.
For the sake of differentiating the characters in this article and to better understand the situation, Park Hyeongseok will be referred to as Student Hyeongseok and Worker Hyeongseok. Student Hyeongseok is his handsome, princely, and socially attractive form, while Worker Hyeongseok will be his original appearance, wearing glasses, bullied by everyone he comes across.

Park Hyeongseok comes from a poor household, and in an attempt to earn extra money for his living expenses, he decided to work at the convenience store at night as Worker Hyeongseok. During his shifts, he encounters a beautiful woman who cheers him on every time he tries something new–whether it be exercising or singing, she’s always giving him a cough drop for his throat or an energizer to keep him moving.
One night, when Worker Hyeongseok was practicing for a performance Student Hyeongseok has to perform the next day, the beautiful woman passed by again and gave him a soothing drink for his throat, and cheered him on. On the day of the show, Student Hyeongseok’s performance with his friend had blown up online, which meant that the beautiful woman would see it too.

During this scene, we see that the woman recognized the song, and was confused as to how Student Hyeongseok was the one performing when it was Worker Hyeongseok who had sung it in the convenience store. Amidst the confusion, the scene panned out and we see that besides the beautiful woman was another body who was peacefully sleeping on the bed, which meant that just like Hyeongseok, the beautiful woman was also given the ability to switch bodies.
