The fantasy manga, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, will be having an indefinite hiatus on Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine. The reasons for the hiatus and length of break were not disclosed. Let us hope all is going well for the manga author, Kanehito Yamada and the illustrator, Tsukasa Abe!
This announcement comes on the heels of industry artists revealing the sad realities of their working conditions in a new survey.
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End started serialization on Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine in April 28, 2020. Shogakukan later published it into a paperback and e-book – releasing the 1st volume in August 18, 2020. As of September 15, 2022, there are now 9 volumes. The 10th volume is set to release this March 16, 2023. So although the manga is on break, fans can still look forward to the latest physical publication!
VIZ Media licensed the manga into an English version, releasing the 1st volume in November 9, 2021. The latest 7th volume just got released last January 17, 2023.

Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Anime Adaptation
The anime adaptation for Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End manga was announced last September 13, 2022. It is slated to premiere sometime this year 2023. There are no updates yet about the specific date, so the anime’s official Twitter and website will be sharing this soon! A key visual is released to give fans the first look of the anime.

Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Synopsis
The hero group, the four-mage Frieren, Himmel, priest Heiter, and warrior Eisen had successfully defeated the demon king after a decade-long struggle. Now it is time for them to say goodbye to one another. Since Frieren is an elf, she gets to outlive her companions as they pass away one by one.
Befoe Heiter died, he managed to get a human apprentice for Frieren named Fern. The pair then decided to set off on a journey aimlessly, collecting magic spells and old places. Frieren also gets to deal with her immense regrets of not forming deeper bonds with her former companions.
