TRIGGER WARNING: Mentions of Suicide
Fuyu No Hanashi (A Winter’s Tale) is the song Mafuyu sang to bid goodbye to a love that has gone cold (literally). It is a song about living in a cold winter where the snow never melts; a song about someone who suffers alone, unable to move on from a love that had already passed.
Sato Mafuyu is a new student at one particular high school. After the sudden death of his ex-boyfriend, Yuki, Mafuyu spent everyday blaming himself for what had happened. During the wake, Yuki’s mom gave him a souvenir: His (Yuki’s) old guitar. Yuki used to be part of a band. He was the lead guitarist. Every song he sang and played was dedicated to Mafuyu. Mafuyu and Yuki always bonded over music. Yuki would play him his favorite tunes, and Mafuyu would listen.
It wasn’t clearly implicated how and why Yuki had died in the anime, however, it was shown that Yuki and Mafuyu had a big fight and that maybe that fight was the reason Yuki took his own life.

Fuyu no Hanashi is a song originally composed by Mafuyu, it was a song that allowed him to finally let go of any grudges, and moving past the time of his life when he felt like the world blamed him for what happened.
Even if your everything loses its shape one day
You’ll always be here with me
As I try to move on again
Even though I couldn’t say goodbye to you
The song greatly emphasizes how hard it was for Mafuyu to live in a town that made him remember his time with Yuki, but it also shows how brave he was for moving forward, and for being able to fall in love with someone again.
