Girlfriend, Girlfriend Anime Season 2 Announced

Great news for Girlfriend, Girlfriend anime fans! Season 2 is officially confirmed! There are no details yet about its release schedule. The official Twitter account and website will be posting updates soon.

The first season aired from July 3 – September 18, 2021 on selected Japanese channels: MBS, TBS, and BS-TBS. It streamed on Crunchyroll as well, receiving its English dub last August 2022. It has a total of 12 episodes. Tezuka Productions is the animation production studio.

Girlfriend, Girlfriend is a story about Naoya Mukai, who has been in love with Saki Saki for a long time. She finally accepted his confession after multiple times, much to Naoya’s happiness. Saki became his girlfriend, so Naoya showered her with lots of affection. As a couple, they were often pit against each other like ice and fire, but they undoubtedly love each other very much. Until one day, a girl named Nagisa Minase confessed her love to Naoya. Naoya rejected her politely at first, but he eventually found Nagisa to be very charming and irresistible. She is very sweet, cute, and even made lunch for him. Naoya then got a crazy idea – he would date Saki and Nagisa simultaneously. He decided to ask Saki for permission… would she even agree?

Hiroyuki is the author and illustrator of the Girlfriend, Girlfriend series. The work was first published on Twitter and released on a doujinshi convention, Comiket 86 in 2019. It began manga serialization on the Weekly Shounen Magazine of Kodansha Comics Plus in 2020. It is available as a physical book and an e-book as well. It also just released its 12th volume today – September 16, 2022.

Kodansha USA licensed the manga to be published in English, which was first released last 2021. It is only available as an e-book, and it currently has 9 volumes as of June 2022.
