Suguru Geto and Satoru Gojo are characters in the hit anime series Jujutsu Kaisen. Their dynamic is seen as an integral part of the series, especially when it comes to fans. It is most important that their dynamic is understood well when watching the upcoming second season of Jujutsu Kaisen
Suguru Geto and Satoru Gojo are the best of friends. They did everything from vacations to fighting curses together. They were an inseparable pair, and for two whole years, they spent the best time of their life just by each other’s side.
However… there is apparently one thing that Gojo and Geto can’t do together. That one thing is dying. As what has already been made obvious by the most recent movie release of the series, Jujutsu Kaisen 0, Suguru Geto is dead, and the person who killed him was his best friend of three years, Satoru Gojo.

Who is Gojo’s Best Friend?
As has already been established above, Satoru Gojo’s one and only best friend is Suguru Geto. Their dynamic, friendship and relationship definitely should not be read by those who cry easily because their tale is NOT for the weak of heart.
Gojo and Geto were an outstanding duo. They killed curses, fought foes, and they were looked upon and recognized by everyone around them, but most of the time, Geto felt like he was a shadow. Imagine having the world’s strongest man as a best friend, right? It’d make you feel so… proud of what they had achieved, but at the same time, empty, because you know you could never be on par with that strength.
In the world of evil cursers and powerful sorcerers, being strong is not enough. You’d have to be talented, and gifted with extraordinary abilities to stand out, in other words, You’d have to be Satoru Gojo, and Suguru Geto was not Gojo.

The downside of doing everything together was that you would also be seen with each other quite often. That would also mean unnecessary opinions and comparisons between the parties involved. It was like this with Gojo and Geto. Because they were the best of friends, they would be subject to criticism and comparison, especially since Gojo possesses six eyes and the limitless.
This burnt Geto out. He didn’t want to be the shadow of some strong and powerful sorcerer, he wanted to be his own man. He wanted to exercise his principle, his morals–without being judged for what he was doing. However, not everything you want, you get. That was the case with Geto.
In the world that they lived in, you either follow protocol or you’re seen as a threat. Geto’s cursed technique was called Cursed Spirit Manipulation this technique allowed him to control or manipulate the curses that he exorcises or defeats.
When he finally was free of the shackles of pressure, Geto had… a conflict with non-sorcerers. Geto hated non-sorcerers. He sees them as inferior and useless. This principle was something he strongly held unto. His conviction was so strong that he allowed hundreds of non-sorcerers (ordinary human citizens) to be massacred, and because of this, he was expelled from Jujutsu High.

On the contrary, he adored sorcerers. Those who had the power to exorcise curse users, he held in the highest regard. He just absolutely hated the fact that sorcerers had to save useless little money-making monkeys every time there is a curse around.
Suguru Geto may have walked away from all the pressure and dread of being the strongest sorcerer’s best friend, but he also stepped into a world of uncertainty which eventually lead him to his unavoidable death. Before he died, many presume that the last thing he heard was Gojo calling him and telling him that he was his one and only best friend and that he was half of Gojo’s soul.
Why did Gojo Kill Geto?
The only reason why Gojo HAD to kill Geto was that he respected his best friend and because he didn’t want his higher-ups to be the ones to do the job. Suguru Geto became a threat to the world. Even though his abilities are obviously incomparable to that of Gojo’s he is still a strong sorcerer.
Gojo spent a lot of time trying to find Geto and to talk him out of the kind of evils he was plotting, but Geto never flinched. They did not meet, not once. On the day that he was to be killed, Geto finally showed up, helpless on a sidewalk. Gojo was waiting for the day they were to meet, and as if bad luck had poured out its wrath on them, the day Gojo was most anticipating was also the day when he gets to kill only half of his soul.

Is Gojo in Love with Geto?
Gojo probably sees Geto as the most important figure in his life. He dedicates half of his soul to him, and if that isn’t love to you, then what is?
Love can come in all sorts of forms. It could be romantic, platonic, or even parental. But the love Gojo had for Geto probably transcended more than just platonic, but was not quite romantic either. They spent high school together. Everyone must agree that those people whom you spent high school with play an important role in determining who you are as a person.

People who you meet in high school are friends. Like, real friends. They probably won’t spend the rest of your life with you, but they definitely will be a part of the time in your life when you had the most fun. Therefore, friends from high school will always be memorable.
Gojo probably feels that way for Geto. The series never made any mention of any other friends of Gojo’s while the series was ongoing and even in the manga. All he had were foes and acquaintances who were probably only there because they felt that it was advantageous for them to mingle with the strongest sorcerer alive.
But Geto was different. To Gojo, Geto had always been his friend. Ever since they went to high school together, they’ve taken on many challenges, especially when it came to missions and fighting curses. Geto might seem like he does not contribute a lot to success, but he actually is an important part of the mission that Gojo does.
Gojo wasn’t in love with Geto, but he loved Geto more than he loved himself. When he was tasked to kill Geto, he only managed to push through with the task because he was his one and only best friend, the other half of his soul we were talking about. Not some random citizen, not another person, but Suguru Geto. He was able to build himself up because Geto was with him, and as gratitude, even though it hurt him, he had to be the one who did it.
Even right before Gojo was to be sealed in the prison realm in Shibuya, he still could not believe his eyes. Right in front of him was the best friend that he killed.

How did Gojo Feel When He Saw Geto in Shibuya?

Gojo was undoubtedly shaken. He was confused and shaken up to the point that even the prison realm was able to touch someone who was supposed to be limitless. The only reason why he was sealed in an instant was that Geto was a big part of Gojo’s life, but Gojo was also the one that killed him. Seeing an important person in your life alive and kicking when you spent years coping and mourning for your loss must have incurred unnecessary feelings to come back.
It is not for certain whether Gojo and Geto will have an interaction again in the future, or if Gojo will ever be unsealed from the Prison Realm. It is sure, however, that the next season of Jujutsu Kaisen will feature Gojo’s past and the Shibuya Arc which, by far, is the most devastating arc of anime history.
Jujutsu Kaisen Anime is licensed and ready for Season 2. The season is set to release in 2023 and it will focus on Gojo’s backstory and the Shibuya Station incident.
