Gojo Satoru, the strongest sorcerer of his time, was sealed in the prison realm during the Shibuya Station Arc upon seeing his supposedly dead best friend, Suguru Geto.

The Shibuya Station Arc in the hit anime and manga series, Jujutsu Kaisen is notorious for being a record-breaker for most main character deaths in one arc. It has undeniably surpassed most of the shounen mangas as Gege Akutami, the author or mangaka of the novel killed off so many important characters during this arc. However, aside from the heartbreak of losing many of the characters they loved the most, fans are also heavily affected by the fact that Gojo Satoru, a fan favorite, was sealed in the Prison realm during this time.

What Is the Prison Realm in Jujutsu Kaisen?

The prison realm is an unknown place and an unknown entity. It has not been seen or heard of even in the latest manga chapters of Jujutsu Kaisen. The prison realm is the remains of a Buddhist monk. It is a cursed object that is fabled to never let go of the one that is sealed inside. Neither strength nor ability, even cursed technique will be effective in unsealing those who have already been planned inside. Kenjaku, a brain-possessing curse, the one who possessed Suguru Geto’s body, was the one responsible for sealing Gojo in the prison realm.

Why Gojo Was Sealed Away in Jujutsu Kaisen

Gojo had to be sealed away because he is too powerful. He is known to be the strongest sorcerer. He is a part of one of the strongest clans of sorcerers, the only clan known to possess a powerful cursed technique: the six eyes and the limitless. Both of these techniques rarely appear in the family, and considering the fact that Gojo Satoru has both makes his cursed technique rank higher than the rest. With Gojo in the picture, other characters such as Yuji and Megumi wouldn’t be able to shine.

Geto Suguru and Gojo Satoru

Gojo has defeated several foes with ease. He has defeated level 4 curses even while he was still studying in high school. His reputation is known not only in Japan but even in the whole world. But who knew that that kind of limitless, boundless, and immense power would crumble down upon seeing the best friend whom he thought he’d killed years ago? Gojo, no matter how strong he is, has one weakness: Suguru Geto.

Even before the events of Shibuya, the cursed brain, as he would most preferably be called, had already planned an evil scheme. He will allow his cursed subordinates to infiltrate Shibuya while everyone’s eyes were turned away from the unassuming station, and then, when everything was set, he was sure that Gojo would show up. Once he did, the cursed brain would appear to Gojo as Suguru Geto, and this will undeniably shake the powerful sorcerer which would make him vulnerable enough to be sealed in the Prison realm.

Long story short, the cursed brain’s plan was successful. It has since been over 1,000 days (3 years) since Gojo Satoru was sealed away (credits to the Twitter account that counts how many days it’s been).

When Will Gojo Be Unsealed and Escape the Prison Realm?

Gojo will likely eventually be unsealed in a last-ditch effort to defeat Kenjaku. The manga has already revealed multiple ways he can escape from the prison realm. The reason he was sealed away leading up to this point is because he is just too powerful. What is the point of everyone’s battles if Gojo can just come in to save the day?

The exact season in the anime when Gojo will return is yet to be revealed, but it isn’t going to be anytime soon. There is still a lot of story to be told until we get to the final battle with Kenjaku. At present, the anime is showcasing the development of Yuji and Sakuna as well as Megumi. So in the meantime, enjoy their progress in the battles to come!
