Gudetama just resigned itself to end up on someone’s plate, but Shikapiyo had different ideas. Swept up by Shikapiyo’s overbearing nature, Gudetama then left the refrigerator to embark on a journey together to find their mother.

The teaser is narrated by Gudetama’s voice actor himself, Shunsuke Takeuchi, and tells the story of the lazy and unmotivated egg yolk. It engages in a journey in the real world, and met more cute characters along the way.
All of these characters are also voiced by Shunsuke Takeuchi. Shunsuke switches from his deep narrator’s voice into Gudetama’s high-pitched one, which is impressive and funny to watch. It makes the viewers eager to watch the upcoming series!
Gudetama Character Background
Gudetama is a cartoon character created by Sanrio, a Japanese company where the famous Hello Kitty came from. Emi Nagashima is credited for illustrating and designing Gudetama. Gudetama is conceptualized to be an egg yolk who is lazy and sad.
Gudetama became a popular character in Japan, most specifically to teens and adults. A research paper conducted by Theodore Bonnah explored how teens and adults relate to Gudetama in terms of depression and demotivation. Gudetama is even considered as one of Japan’s mascots, as noted by a lot of online sources. One website even labeled it as the representation of a millennial burnout generation.
Hence, it spawned a TV program with animated shorts that aired in TBS Channel last 2014. As of 2017, it had reached near 1000 episodes with 1 minute duration each.
There are also video games, themed activities, establishments, and merchandises that feature Gudetama.
