As part of the Gundam Next Future -Road to 2025- project celebrating the 45th anniversary of the Gundam franchise, the series will be one of three components. Titled the Dream Battle Project, this series envisions an extraordinary competition that unfolds exclusively within the Metaverse, as depicted in the accompanying image.
In October, a beta test called “Gunpla Colony” will launch as part of the “Gundam Metaverse” virtual space. It will bring Gundam fans from around the world together to enjoy content, interact, and shop for Gundam model kits. Additionally, the “Gundam Next Future 2023 East/West/Digital” events will happen in Tokyo, Osaka, and online during the same month. There will also be an XR Live event for the Gundam Metaverse. The Gundam Navi news app will gain functionality for the Gundam Metaverse, including a cool feature called “Gunpla Scan” that allows users to scan their Gundam models and see them in the virtual world.
The Gundam Build franchise started in 2013 with Gundam Build Fighters, where people build Gundam models and battle them virtually. It continued with Gundam Build Fighters Try in 2015, Gundam Build Divers in 2018, Gundam Build Divers Re:RISE in October 2019, and Gundam Build Divers Re:RISE Season 2 in April 2020. Both seasons of Gundam Build Divers Re:RISE were streamed on Crunchyroll.
In November 2020, the latest anime in the Gundam Build franchise, Gundam Build Divers Battlogue, premiered. Similar to Gundam Build Fighters: Battlogue from 2017, this new series features exciting “dream battles” with different situations and Gunpla.
In March 2021, the live-action video project Gundam Build Real debuted on YouTube. It showcased real-life Gunpla model kits across six episodes.
