September has just become more interesting for fans of anime high-stake games. Japanese media giant Kadokawa revealed Wednesday an additional cast and the side story for the upcoming anime High Card, a new multimedia project centering on the world of poker.
Joining the cast is Nobunaga Shimazaki, who will play the character of Owen Alldays. Owen is the secretary of Theodore, the boss and CEO of Pinochle. Owen is described as a loyal subordinate and among the very few who is aware of the existence of High Card.
The new poker-themed multimedia project is a team up between Kakegurui‘s creator, Homura Kawamoto, his brother, Hikaru Muno, and TMS Entertaiment. News about the series first broke out in March this year.
High Card’s story is described as such:
After learning that his orphanage is about to close due to financial problems, Finn Oldman heads to a casino to win a fortune. Once there, Finn gets caught up in an intense chase and gunfight set off by a man’s “lucky card.” Finn eventually learns that the world order is controlled by whoever holds a deck of 52 X-Playing Cards, which can grant superhuman abilities.
A secret group of players called the High Card was commissioned directly by the King of Fourland to collect these cards, which are scattered throughout the kingdom. They also work under the guise of employees at the luxury car manufacturer Pinochle. Now chosen as the fifth member of the party, Finn is about to embark with the rest of the group on a dangerous mission in search of these powerful cards…Kadokawa
Other cast members of the show include Gen Sato as Finn Oldman, Toshiki Masuda as Chris Redgrave, Shun Horie as Leo Constantine Pinochle, Haruka Shiraishi as Wendy Satō, Yuichiro Umehara as Vijay Kumar Singh, Kazuhiro Yamaji as Bernard Symons, and Daisuke Ono as Theodore Constantine Pinochle.
The highly-anticipated series is to be directed by Junichi Wada. It is set to premiere in January 2023.
