TONIKAWA: Over the Moon for You is an anime by Kenjiro Hata that centers on the value of marriage and how it affects the people involved individually. It is an anime that proves that marriage is something beautiful and magical because people like the female protagonist, Tsukasa Tsukuyomi, made marrying her destiny as one of her goals in life.
Many people aspire to live a longer life. Today, people are estimated to at least live not more than one hundred twenty-two years old or even fewer years. However, this doesn’t mean that there is actually a maximum life expectancy. Through miracles and luck, one can actually live longer than the estimated number mentioned.
Sometimes people overestimate the good that comes with living a life with no end. For Tsukasa, her body may have the ability to heal quickly but it was never enough to heal her emotional scars, not until Nasa came into her life.
Why Did Tsukasa Choose to Marry Nasa Yuzaki?
The story of Tsukasa and Nasa is significant and entertaining as it teaches related marriage or relationship advice. But, later on, it will also tell the downside of having to live an immortal life. In chapter 147.1 of Tonikaku Kawaii, the anticipated retelling of Tsukasaya Tsukuyomi’s past finally unfolds. It was mentioned that she was just a normal girl 1400 years ago, but because of Kaguya-hime’s certain belonging she gained immortality.
Tsukasa Tsukuyomi always had the heart for helping the ones in need even before meeting Nasa. She made it her mission in her life to provide medicine and care for those who are sick. At the age of sixteen, Tsukasa had already contributed a lot to her community as an apothecary. Therefore, she didn’t realize that she herself was also suffering from an illness that aimed to kill her. Tsukasa began to accept her fate. With contentment for the short life she have lived, Tsukasa was prepared to die. However, her only regret was not being able to marry someone.

The elixir of eternal youth from Kaguya that she took made Tsukasa live a harsh life. All of the struggles she had gone through made her forget something that she wanted. In chapter 156 of the original manga, Tsukasa had a conversation with Tokiko regarding her marriage. Remembering that she once thought about getting married made her ask about her friend’s experience. Tokiko described her marriage as something she was glad to do and even recommended to Tsukasa to try it even just once in her life.
During this conversation between the two, Tokiko was already old and already had a granddaughter. Hence, Tsukasa’s marriage life has been delayed for quite a thousand years already. Tsukasa told Tokiko that a lot of men have proposed to her in the past, but none of the guys felt like her destiny. However, she finally met the love of her life through Nasa Yuzaki.
Tsukasa Tsukuyomi chose to marry Nasa Yuzaki because of love at first sight. It might sound so absurd but no man has ever bravely confessed their love to Tsukasa the way Nasa did. She has met a bunch of different kinds of men as she wandered for a thousand years. But, no man caught her attention like her husband through all those years.

In the anime, Tsukasa seemed to have chosen Nasa because of her bravery in confessing his feelings for her and agreeing to marry her. It also seemed like he didn’t know a thing about Tsukasa’s past. But, chapter 147 of the original manga says otherwise. Tsukasa went away from Nasa for a while and almost divorced him because of her fear of Nasa leaving her after finding out the truth about her past.
On the night of the accident, Nasa confessed his love for Tsukasa. But, that wasn’t the best thing that happened that night and Nasa forgot about it. He forgot that after he almost passed out Tsukasa made him drink her blood that healed him and that she shared Nasa the secret about her being an immortal.
After hearing her side, Nasa promised Tsukasa that her past and immortality will never change the feelings he got for her. He promised to make all of her dreams come true whether it is to take her to the moon or help her find a way for her to be normal again.

Five Things that Make Nasa the Perfect Husband
1. Nasa Yuzaki is the Family Provider
Nasa may only be eighteen but he was so much ready to step out to adulthood. In order to not trouble his parents and avoid making them worry, Nasa had to move out of his parent’s house and lived in Tokyo while working for himself. Nasa is a gifted child who can easily go to a prestigious university; however, he chose to work while he waited for Tsukasa. The two getting married and living under the same roof means that Nasa Yuzaki must now provide food on the table for them both.
Tsukasa may have lived under the care of her rich friend, Tokiko, but she did not take advantage of it. Instead of working, Tsukasa settled inside the house to take care of her husband who was working almost day and night. Nasa Yuzaki never forced his wife to find a job because her doing all the housework for them both was more than enough for him.
2. His Love Language is Physical Touch
People have different kinds of love languages. It can be either physical touch, acts of service, words of affirmation, quality time, or receiving gifts. Nasa Yuzaki is a man close to perfection as he is someone who is capable of doing all kinds of love language. However, he is more of a man who is into sweet cuddles with his wife.
Tsukasa is Nasa’s first and only love, and vice versa. When Nasa became comfortable around his wife, he never forgets to express how much he loves her through words and actions. Nasa was more than proud to marry the girl of her dreams at eighteen. TONIKAWA: Over the Moon for You is only composed of a few characters, and Nasa proudly told every one of them about him marrying Tsukasa Tsukuyomi. Whenever Nasa was required to introduce his wife to his friends like Kaname, he enthusiastically and proudly tells them about her.
He doesn’t even hesitate to tell them that he loves her or that they are husband-wife while they are on the streets talking with other people passing by. Nasa’s parents are also aware of Tsukasa’s existence long before they got married because he told them that an overly cute woman was her lifesaver. All of Nasa’s compliments to Tsukasa whenever he introduces his wife always leave Tsukasa blushing. Yeah, she blushes a lot whenever she is with him.
5. Nasa Accepted Tsukasa Wholeheartedly
Nasa learning about Tsukasa’s secrets and mundane past never became a hindrance to the way he feels about her. It is true that Nasa is the only man that had a romantic relationship with Tsukasa throughout the 1400 years or more that she has lived. On the night of the accident, Tsukasa told Nasa after their first real kiss that he was the first man to kiss her and the only person that she will marry. However, there was also a significant man in Tsukasa’s life before she took Kaguya’s elixir of eternal youth.
Being an apothecary required Tsukasa to visit and go to the patients’ houses which became the way for her to meet the Emperor of Japan. The news that Kaguya-hime was on a quest to find a suitable husband for herself traveled across towns.
Although she was on her final tasks for her top 5 candidates, the emperor suddenly came and tried to seek her too. But, even the Emperor of Japan couldn’t sway the princess that easily. So, he was instantly rejected by her. The emperor spent his time after the rejection sulking in the forest where she met Tsukasa Tsukuyomi.

Through the love bits of advice of Tsukasa to him, the Emperor was able to make Kaguya fall for him. The emperor’s determination to make Kaguya his wife became the bridge that allowed him to make a new friend through Tsukasa Tsukuyomi. The two didn’t bother to share their names to keep their social identities hidden. But, they were still able to spend some fun times thinking of ways to woo Kaguya.
The emperor treasured his friendship with Tsukasa. Therefore, he showed his sincere gratitude to her by ordering his most skilled craftsman to make something for Tsukasa. The gift that Tsukasa got from the emperor is still with her up until today which is the over-shaped purple headdress that she never forgets to use.
The connection between Tsukasa Tsukuyomi and the emperor conveys that TONIKAWA: Over the Moon for You is more than just a light-hearted romance anime. As the anime adaptation continues, the love story of Tsukasa and Nasa will have a more surprising turn of events that fans must look forward to. It will certainly be a worthy voyage for everyone because the series will also take its fans 1400 years before the love story Tsukasa and Nasa even began.
