Yes, she is! Tsukasa has gained a potion for eternal youth when she was sixteen and never gotten older since. Throughout the anime, the celestial being, Kaguya, and her tale has been constantly mentioned. Now that Tsukasa’s immortality is confirmed, the real question lies in whether Kaguya and Tsukasa is a single person. Read on to find out!
Tsukasa Tsukuyomi Yuzaki from TONIKAWA: Over the Moon for You may live longer than you did. Many have been trying to find the answer to all the questions that surround the adorably cute Tsukasa Tsukuyomi who married Nasa Yuzaki at such a young age.
Since its release, fans have been trying to find out the real history behind Tsukasa Tsukuyomi. On the outside, she looks like an ordinary housewife to Nasa Yuzaki. She always finishes her chores, particularly cooking, with ease and satisfaction, and knows how to spoil her husband perfectly.
However, some sixteen years old girls wouldn’t behave the ways she does. Tsukasa may be younger than her husband, but never did she show any sign of still being a typical teenager. This somehow implies that her experience of living for many years may have resulted in her acting more mature for her age.
7 Hints in the Anime That Proves Tsukasa Tsukuyomi Is Immortal
Tsukasa Tsukuyomi has given the smallest to the biggest hints about her real history. However, never did she confirmed or revealed anything about her past directly. Tsukasa Tsukuyomi has been surrounded by questions because of certain clues that she consciously and unconsciously says throughout the anime.
This led fans to believe that they are not merely watching an ordinary romance anime and that the possibility of it having a pinch of a supernatural genre is high. Therefore, to finally put all the immortality questions to rest, here is all the information you need:
Tsukasa Survives the Brutal Accident
The first thing scene in the series that raised a lot of eyebrows regarding Tsukasa is probably the accident that led her to meet Tsukasa. One can say that her surviving the accident was because of her pure luck. But, even luck has its limitation sometimes.
Nasa being overly distracted by Tsukasa’s dreamlike cuteness resulted in him being caught in an accident. A truck driver that was travelling during that snowy night accidentally hit Nasa who was crossing the street to go talk to Tsukasa. However, instead of him being brutally wounded, Tsukasa ends up being caught in the accident because of trying to save him.
Nasa realized right after the incident that the girl he saw across the street was right in front of him with blood running through her face. The truck driver even told her that she should be given more attention than Nasa because of the wounds she got from saving him. But, she did not pay much attention to it and was able to casually walk away.
She, later on, revealed to Kaname-chan that the accident caused her some serious traumatic wounds, but her body moved before she could even think. Surviving a split head wound and broken bones with ease is sometimes the lucky ones or supernatural beings can only do.
Tsukasa Yuzaki Wearing a Kimono
Before arriving in Nara, the two did a stopover at Kyoto for sightseeing. Kyoto is known for its wonderful ancient temples and shrines; hence, Nasa was enthusiastic to visit them all with his wife. However, Tsukasa was far more interested in visiting a popular bakery and the manga museum. She even referred to the shrines and temples as the old stuff. As someone who has lived as long as those shrines, it was only natural for Tsukasa to show her lack of interest.
But, since her love for her husband was far more dominant, she went ahead with Nasa’s plans. One way to appreciate the beautiful tourist spots in Japan is by wearing a Kimono. But, without much practice, people who are not familiar with them may have a hard time wearing them and may need assistance.
The immortality clue is here when Tsukasa Yuzaki was able to put it on herself as if she has worn them a hundred or a thousand times already. Tsukasa’s living for a hundred years or more means that she was present during the times when kimono-wearing was the common outfit of women.
Tsukasa Carrying Interesting Facts about History
The married couple not inviting nor informing Nasa’s parents of their marriage made his parents demand that the two should come by the province and visit them. The trip of Nasa and Tsukasa to Nara has given the most hints addressing her immortality. The two decided to also visit some historical places in Nara. When they visited the Horyuji, Tsukasa told Nasa some interesting facts about the temple which he complimented despite her lack of interest in them.
Nasa also became shy when Tsukasa made them take a sweet photo in the temple. In his defense, Horyuji is a sacred place and Prince Shotoku might get mad at them. However, Tsukasa laugh at him and said that the prince would get mad over something like that. This scene slightly hinted that the prince and Tsukasa may have had a connection before or she may have at least met him.
The same thing happened when the couple went to the Heijo Palace. Although there was almost nothing left there, Tsukasa told Nasa a city truly once stood in that place where over 100, 000 people lived, laugh, and cried together. The emotions she felt when she told these words can be sensed. It felt like Tsukasa was still mourning for the people who once lived in the city.
Tsukasa’s Letter from Guardian and the Underground Passage
Marrying someone is not that easy, especially when the couple shares mutual feelings. But, the hard part of marrying early is convincing the parents. Nasa Yuzaki was already of legal age when he reunited with Tsukasa two years before their first meeting.
Since Tsukasa was still underage at the time of their marriage, the employee from the marriage registration office asked for the approval of Tsukasa’s guardian since she was still registered as a minor in the documents they passed.
Tsukasa was more than prepared and easily handed out the letter to the employee without further information as to who her guardian is or why they were in favor of her marrying at sixteen. I mean, it felt like Tsukasa was planning all of her decisions by herself like an actual adult.
In addition, she and Nasa were able to escape Chitose’s plan to set them apart because of her knowledge about the underground passage inside the mansion. Chitose and Tsukasa have lived together for years; however, Chitose wasn’t able to catch the two because she herself wasn’t aware of the secret passage inside the mansion.
Tsukasa told Nasa again that the mansion was built during the Meiji era and the passage leading to the church was created for emergency purposes. Finding out that Tsukasa is indeed immortal made these hints a lot bigger than before. These are one of the moments when the audience will have a moment of realization with regard Tsukasa’s identity.
Chitose’s Non-stop Accusation to Nasa
Chitose never hesitated once to show his disinterest in her sister’s husband, Naza Yuzaki. Tsukasa’s immortality secret is known only by a few people, including Chitose. Tsukasa told Nasa that Chitose is a family member of the household she once lived in. However, it cannot be denied based on Chitose’s reactions that Tsukasa is more than just the girl that used to live with them.
Chitose constantly tells Nasa how ignorant he is when it comes to Tsukasa. Based on the knowledge she knows about Tsukasa, she believes that a guy like Nasa Yuzaki does not deserve her sister. Chitose even insisted that she deserves Tsukasa more than Nasa.
In episode four of season one, Charlotte accidentally breaks the glass box where a stone moon is placed. Nasa fixes it but also questions how is the stone moon connected to Tsukasa. This made Chitose conclude that Nasa doesn’t know a thing about Tsukasa’s past.
Because of all the accusations of Chitose, Nasa began to realize that his wife may have gone through a past that was more harsh and difficult than he could ever imagine. However, this is not enough reason for him to doubt the love that he has for her. Nasa is not the guy who will push his wife to tell things she is still uncomfortable telling. Instead, he is the man who would patiently wait until Tsukasa is ready to share her past.
Fascination with Modern Technology
Tsukasa Tsukuyomi living for a hundred years or more can affect the way she reacts to things, particularly modern technology. As an individual who has lived before the era of cell phones and video games, understanding how exciting it is to still be able to witness today’s technological advancement is an understatement.
Tsukasa has repeatedly shown throughout the series her excitement for modern technology like when buying a television for their house or watching the latest TV shows. In TONIKAWA: Over the Moon for You OVA, Nasa finally buys his wife a smartphone. Due to her excitement, she instantly shared the news of her having a phone with her friends. She told Kaname that the age of technology is nothing like the Sengoku period when they used smoke signals and drums which again proves that she lived during those times.
Exceptional Skills in Old Video Games and Ancient Scriptures
Tsukasa Tsukuyomi’s knowledge of old video games comes in handy during the Takoyaki Party they hosted. In order to protect Nasa from the girls, Tsukasa decided to take their video game tournament seriously. The only problem is that her skills were no match for a pro gamer like Aya.
Therefore, Tsukasa decided to take the match to another level by making them play old video games instead. Tsukasa was in the lead during the first part of their tournament. But, Aya’s innate skills as a pro gamer allowed her to grasp the game instantly and win the tournament.
Aside from her skills in old video games, Tsukasa again showed a hint of her being immortal when they went to visit Nasa’s parents. Nasa’s father is an archeologist who collects historical books and scriptures inside his home library. When Tsukasa picked up and read the ancient scripture, she told Nasa’s father that the scripture was a love letter. Her exact words that gave one of the biggest hints are:
I was just thinking, if someone was seriously studying a love letter I wrote in the middle of the night, I would probably be embarressed to death.Tsukasa Tsukuyomi to Enishi Yuzaki (Season 1: Episode 7)
SPOILER WARNING: This part of the article contains major spoilers from the original manga about Tsukasa’s real history. Read at your own risk.
Are Kaguya and Tsukasa the Same Person?
No, they are not. At the beginning of the series, Nasa likened his wife during the accident to the Princess of the Moon, Kaguya. However, it is later revealed in the original manga that Tsukasa is not Kaguya; however, her immortality is somewhat connected to the moon princess.
The Tale of the Bamboo Cutler is a story that tells the life of Kaguya-hime, little did Tsukasa know that she will later become a part of it. Tsukasa was like any normal girl before. She lived as an apothecary during the time that Kaguya was still on Earth. Although Kaguya was a very important being living at the former bamboo cutter’s palace, Tsukasa did not pay much attention to it for she was more focused on helping other people.
Because of her utmost care for others, she did not know that her body was already failing. During the attack of the heavenly beings from the moon on the Emperor’s kingdom, Tsukasa was on the verge of dying due to her illness. However, she miraculously survives death because of a certain thing from Kaguya.
Iwasaka, Tsukasa’s father, was a loyal subordinate of the Emperor. When Kaguya returned to the moon she left the Emperor a letter and an immortality elixir. The chances of them reuniting in the future is zero; hence, the Emperor did not want to take the latter and live a life without Kaguya.
The Emperor ordered Iwasaka to burn the elixir at the top of a mountain, but this time he did not obey this task because of her daughter. Her father made her take the elixir and was able to avoid dying. However, Tsukasa’s life never becomes the same way again after taking it.
She was confused and mad. Tsukasa questioned her father’s decision that night for she herself told him that she was ready to die. The elixir that granted her eternal youth only brought despair into her life. She was hunted down by the same people she helped. She felt betrayed and hopeless. To escape the people’s evilness, she had to fight them even if it meant that she would become the monster.
Does Nasa Know That Tsukasa is Immortal?
Tsukasa eventually reveals to her husband that she has lived long before Nasa was even born. But, he was able to know her past even before they got married. Their fated encounter during the night of the accident, Tsukasa already told Nasa who she really is. But, because of the wounds, he got, Nasa forgets about it and only remembers all of it, including his promise to her, 147 chapters later.
In addition, Tsukasa told Nasa more about her past when her closest friend, Tokiko Tsukuyomi, died. Nasa may have been clueless for many months regarding his wife’s identity, but later on, knew about it and still accepted her. Nasa remembering and finding out about Tsukasa’s past did not change anything between the two.
Tsukasa Tsukuyomi told her husband the story of how she met Tokiko and Chitose. Tsukasa finally sat down with Nasa and told him all the important details that he has to know regarding her past. From her mission, struggles, and the love she got from people like Tokiko. Nasa was even part of Tokiko’s last will testament and choose Nasa to be the successor with all of her knowledge and more importantly her dearest friend, Tsukasa.
