Bright, jolly, and a literal ball of sunshine. These are just some of the words we use to describe Jujutsu Kaisen’s protagonist, Yuji Itadori. However, behind every amazing character is an author who was inspired to write his or her story. In this case, the series’s author, Gege Akutami, reveals that Itadori was apparently inspired by one very special person in the mangaka’s life.
Yuji Itadori, as a Shonen protagonist, shares many similarities with his contemporaries, such as Naruto Uzumaki of Naruto fame and Ichigo Kurosaki of Bleach fame. Struggling with an inner monster that provides him incredible strength but at a high cost, the star of Jujutsu Kaisen is set to return later this year when the anime adaptation’s second season premieres.

Gege Akutami, the creator of the popular series, disclosed his inspiration for the youngster struggling with the king of curses, Sukuna, following his enrollment in Jujutsu Tech in a recent interview.
In an interview with a French publication, author Gege Akutami explained what inspired the development of Yuji Itadori, who is set to make a big comeback later this summer:
“Yuji is heavily influenced by my older brother, who is my polar opposite. He excels at everything he attempts, including sports and academics.”

Akutami went on to say that “he has additional intentions” for Yuji’s mother, expressing the following about the woman who gave birth to the main character of Jujutsu Kaisen:
“I do have plans. I’ve settled on his mother’s role, and I know roughly when I want her to be involved. I’m not sure if I want to take advantage of his father just yet.”

The second season of Jujutsu Kaisen will be a major one, not only because it will reintroduce Yuji and company, but also because it will go into the early life of Gojo, the most popular teacher at Jujutsu Tech, and what led to him and Geto becoming bitter adversaries.
Itadori is one of Jujutsu Kaisen’s fan favorites, and the reason he is well-received is because of his perseverance, and knowing that he is actually inspired by Akutami’s brother just makes him 100 times cooler!
