Junji Ito’s Popular Works
Junji Ito is known for being a horror manga artist, and is a notable figure in the horror scene. Some his works that gained a lot of popularity and acclaim are Tomie and Uzumaki.
Tomie Kawakami is a beautiful high school girl who got brutally murdered. While her classmates mourned for her death, they were shocked that a girl who looked exactly like Tomie arrived in class. As if that was not strange enough, men who caught her attention got so smitten with her immediately. They became compelled to kill her or kill for her. Every time one of these men succeeded in killing her, she returns again and again as if nothing happened. She continues to make men go insane over her as if they were her toys.

Uzumaki tells the tale of Kirie Goshima and her boyfriend Shuuichi Saito who are seemingly living normally in Kurouzu-cho town. One day, when Kirie went off to meet Shuuichi in the train station, she noticed the latter’s father staring at a snail shell in an alley. Shuuichi then stated that his father has been acting weird as of late, and expressed his desire to leave town with Kirie. This is because the town is invaded with ‘spirals’, as he said. His father’s obsession with the shape of the snail shell has brought a chain of horrifying events. Every resident in Kurouzu-cho are spiralling down a path of madness.
