Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: First Kiss wa Owaranai is the first film in the Kaguya-sama: Love is War franchise. The original manga is written by Aka Akasaka and follows the story of two prodigies who cannot confess their love to each other. The series began in Shueisha’s Miracle Jump magazine in 2015 and later moved to Young Jump the following year.
Viz Media, the publisher of the manga in English, describes the story as follows:
All’s fair when love is war!
Two geniuses. Two brains. Two hearts. One battle. Who will confess their love first…?!Kaguya Shinomiya and Miyuki Shirogane are two geniuses who stand atop their prestigious academy’s student council, making them the elite among elite. But it’s lonely at the top and each has fallen for the other. There’s just one huge problem standing in the way of lovey-dovey bliss—they’re both too prideful to be the first to confess their romantic feelings and thus become the “loser” in the competition of love! And so begins their daily schemes to force the other to confess first!
The film will serve as the adaptation of the manga’s story arc of the same name and will continue from where the third season of the anime ended. Specifically, fans will get to see more of how the relationship between the two main leads, Kaguya and Miyuki progresses after the two finally shared a passionate kiss at the culture festival.
A-1 Pictures will produce the film, with Shinichi Omata as the director.
The film is scheduled to premiere in Japan on December 17. More details about its U.S. release are expected to be revealed soon.
