Kaiju No. 8 is preparing for a new age of the franchise this year as the anime adaptation makes its premiere, and the manga has expanded with a whole new spin-off series centered on Soshiro Hoshina!
Naoya Matsumoto’s original manga series has been one of the most popular publications from Shueisha’s Jump+ app in recent years, and the franchise will take a fresh step forward with the launch of its official anime adaptation later this year. The manga is now celebrating its success in its own unique manner, with a new series.
With Kaiju No. 8′s manga recently reaching Chapter 100, it has expanded into a new spin-off manga series. This new series, titled Kaiju No. 8: B-Side, features a story by Naoya Matsumoto and Keiji Ando with artwork by Kentaro Hidano. The first chapter of the spin-off manga series, which focuses on Defense Force members who don’t receive much screen time in the main tale, is now available through Viz Media’s digital Shonen Jump library.
Kaiju No. 8’s new anime series will premiere later this April as part of the Spring 2024 anime calendar, and it will be available on Crunchyroll and X. They begin to tease the new anime as such:
“In a world plagued by threatening creatures known as Kaiju, Kafka Hibino aspired to enlist in the Japan Defense Force to defeat them. ‘Let’s wipe out the Kajju together.’ Kafka pledged to his childhood friend, Mina Ashiro. Over time, life circumstances forced them to go their separate ways, and he found himself employed by Monster Sweeper, Inc., a professional cleaning company that specializes in cleaning up the aftermath of Kaiju battles.”
There’s more to this spin-off and series than what we have told you, and it is in your hands now whether you want to discover it or not, but we strongly urge that you do. If you’re including this in your to-watch or to-read lists, let us know how it goes!
