Kingdom: Flames of Destiny Live-Action Film Teaser Unleashed on New Year’s Eve, Premiere Date Announced

Fans of Yasuhisa Hara’s Kingdom welcomed 2023 with a bang as the official website for the third live-action film of the manga released a super teaser on Saturday, Dec 31. The highly-anticipated video teases fans with few clips taken from the film. It also reveals the movie’s title, Kingdom: Unmei no Hōno (Flames of Destiny), as well as the film’s debut date, which is on July 28, 2023.

The upcoming film shall serve as the third movie in the live-action Kingdom franchise and shall cover the Shi Ka (Zi Xia) arc and the Battle of Bayou.

The first film, Kingdom, was released in 2019, which garnered a total of 5.73 billion yen (42.26 million USD) in Japan. It was followed by Kingdom 2 Harukanaru Daichi e (To the Land of Faraway) in 2022, which amassed a total of 5.12 billion yen (37.76 million USD).

Kento Yamazaki will be returning as Shin (Xin), along with Ryō Yoshizawa, who will again play Ei Sei (Yin Zheng), and Takao Osawa who will act as Ka Ryō Ten (He Liao Diao)

Other returning cast members from the previous films include Nana Seino, Hiroshi Tamaki, and Kōichi Satō.

Shinsuke Satō is again directing the film, with Hara and Tsutomu Kuroiwa as the scriptwriters.

First launched in 2006, Kingdom began as a manga series written and illustrated by Yasuhisa Hara. It was serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Young Jump magazine and was later adapted into TV anime by Studio Pierrot in 2012.

Crunchyroll is streaming the Kingdom TV anime. It describes the story as follows:

Shin and Hyou are war-orphans in the kingdom of Qin. They dream of proving themselves on the battlefield until the day Hyou is captured by a minister. The boy manages to escape and return to his village, but he is badly injured. Shin then meets a mysterious youth who bears an eerie resemblance to Hyou—a boy who will one day become emperor!
