Yuu Nobuta (High School Fleet, A Good Librarian Like a Good Shepherd) is returning to EMT Squared to direct the anime. The series is once again directed by Hisashi Ishii. Takashi Aoshima (Himouto! Umaru-chan, Yuruyuri – Happy Go Lily) is back in charge of series scripts, and Yuki Nakano (A Destructive God Sits Next to Me) is back as character designer and primary animation director. Shigeo Komori will write the soundtrack as well.
The first season, which aired for 12 episodes, premiered in October 2020. Funimation broadcasted the anime as it aired in Japan, as well as an English dub.
The novels are published in English by Seven Seas Entertainment, and the plot is described as follows:
Fifteen-year-old Yuna prefers staying home and obsessively playing her favorite VRMMO game to doing anything else, including going to school. When a strange new update gives her a one-of-a-kind bear outfit that comes with overpowered abilities, Yuna is torn: the outfit is unbearably cute but too embarrassing to wear in-game. But then she suddenly finds herself transported into the world of the game, facing down monsters and magic for real, and the bear suit becomes the best weapon she has!
In 2014, Kumanano began serializing the ongoing story on the website Shsetsuka ni Nar (Let’s Become Novelists). In May 2015, Shufu to Seikatsu Sha began releasing the story in print with art by 029. Sergei debuted a manga adaption of Seikatsu Sha’s Comic PASH! on Shufu! 2014 manga website.
