Following the success of the One Piece live action adaptation, Netflix’s latest offering, the live-action rendition of the beloved Yu Yu Hakusho anime and manga series has successfully dominated the global streaming charts for non-English content during its initial three weeks of release.
According to a recent report from Netflix, the live-action adaptation consistently secured a position in the top five global non-English language rankings for three consecutive weeks after its premiere on December 14, 2023. Impressively, it claimed the coveted top spot for the first two weeks in this category, showcasing its widespread popularity among international audiences.
Specifically, the live-action series garnered a remarkable 2.6 million total views, with 11 million hours viewed during the week of December 25-31, 2023. The preceding week, from December 18-24, 2023, saw even more impressive numbers, with 6.2 million total views and 26.1 million hours viewed.
Based on Yoshihiro Togashi’s 1990 manga, the Yu Yu Hakusho series follows the adventures of 14-year-old Yusuke, a delinquet, whose life was unexpectedly cut short after a tragic incident. Bestowed with a second chance in life as a spirited detective, Yusuke must now confront his duty of safeguarding the human realm from entities coming from the demon world.
The anime adaptation by Studio Pierrot originally aired from October 10, 1992, to December 17, 1994, totaling 112 episodes.
Takumi Kitamura, the talented actor portraying the iconic character Yusuke Urameshi, recently shared an optimistic update, hinting at the possibility of a Season 2 renewal, further fueling the excitement among fans.
