Made in Abyss has surprised fans by announcing a sequel anime alongside a new PV. The trailer dropped on the Made in Abyss official website and YouTube on January 15, 2023. The announcement is unexpected to many fans, as the anime series has almost caught up with the manga content.
Watch the new trailer and see the announcement below:
The announcement in Japanese is as follows:
“アニメ「メイドインアビス 烈日の黄金郷」続編制作決定!アニメ「メイドインアビス 烈日の黄金郷」続編制作決定PV”
This translates into English as, “Sequel to the anime ‘Made in Abyss: Golden Land of the Rising Sun’ production decision PV.”
Many fans had speculated that the announcement referred to a recap anime movie, which has been done for the other seasons of the Made in Abyss series; however, the translation is very specific in using the word “sequel”. This appears to suggest new anime content is on the way.
Akihito Tsukushi, creator of the series, also went to Twitter to comment on the “sequel” announcement below.
Tsukushi comments translates to, “Hurry up! While you’re still alive! Get the manuscript!”
This additional commentary appears to confirm that we are talking about a Made in Abyss sequel and NOT a recap movie. That’s great news for Made in Abyss fans!
The Season 2 Finale of Made in Abyss aired back in Summer 2022. If you want to catch up on the anime, it’s available to watch on Hidive. If you’re in the United States, it is also streaming free on Amazon Prime. For those living outside the US, you may be able to watch it on Netflix or Disney Plus, depending on your region. Unfortunately, Made in Abyss is currently not on Crunchyroll.
No release date has been set for Made in Abyss Season 3 or sequel.
