On January 17, 2023, the official website of Hajime Isayama’s Attack on Titan anime has revealed that Part 3 of the Final Season will be released sooner than fans had anticipated. However, once the excitement wore off, fans were surprised to learn that the final episodes of the anime would once again be split and aired into two parts.
The studio in charge of animating the final season of Attack on Titan, MAPPA, revealed in a statement that they had originally planned to broadcast the entirety of Part 3 beginning March 3, 2023. However, the amount of work required for animating the season proved to be much greater than anticipated, forcing the staff to split Attack on Titan: The Final Season Part 3 into two parts.
The staff also apologized to fans who were looking forward to seeing the full animated version of the Colossal Titans marching and promised that everyone would keep working on the anime until the end.
Aside from the official website, MAPPA also took to Twitter to relay the news to the fans, check out their official statement below:
Here is the corresponding translation of the official statement provided by AOT’s fanbase:
After the conclusion of Attack on Titan Final Season Part 2, there were only 9 chapters of the manga left to be adapted. All nine chapters are focused on the march of the colossal titans, which explains the voluminous work that the staff must do in animating the series.
Part 2 of The Final Season premiered in Japan on January 9, 2022. Crunchyroll and Funimation were both streaming the episodes live as they aired. Attack on Titan: Final Season Part 2 began airing on Toonami on February 12, 2022.
Wit Studio produced seasons 1-3 of the anime, and MAPPA produced season 4.
Everybody is certainly looking forward to the final season, and we are hoping that all the waiting is worth it!
