Is anyone else a fan of a good horror anime and is running out of something to watch on their free time? Netflix has you covered! When Netflix announced its intention to invest in anime, it was not kidding. Years ago, the streaming service stated its intention to make anime a priority in the future, and Netflix has delivered on that promise with origins and exclusive licensing. Now that one of anime’s finest spooky series has joined the web, viewers should check out Mononoke right now.
After all, for those who haven’t seen it yet, the series is a hidden gem. Mononoke made its premiere in the summer of 2017 under the direction of Kenji Nakamura. The eerie series, produced by Toei Animation, takes set towards the end of Japan’s Edo era and depicts the story of a mysterious character known as the Medicine Seller.

Mononoke is a spooky anime that originated as a spin-off of the horror anime Ayakashi: Samurai Horror Stories. The anime follows the Pharmaceutical Seller as he travels around the country as a low-class trader. The wandering soul scares bystanders with his fancy sword, and it doesn’t take long for us to witness the merchant utilize his weapon. After all, the Medicine Seller spends his days combating mononoke spirits. Before swinging his blade to banish the ghosts, our hero must first learn the shape, truth, and rationale. Mononoke also deals with some very terrible ghosts in its single season.
This classic series is now freely accessible on Netflix, and we cannot recommend it highly enough. Toei Animation created this series for fans of eerie mysteries and haunting thrillers. And Mononoke will be back soon, as Twin Engine has authorized a cinematic resurrection of the series, with Nakamura directing.
