Jump Comics is bringing back another throwback series! Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan has been on hiatus for a while, but creator Hiroshi Shiibashi is eager to return to work. The latest reports indicate that a new series featuring Rikuo will be released, bringing back the beloved characters and their supernatural adventures to the delight of fans.
The reports have revealed that the upcoming manga will be called Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan – Shadow, and it will be available in Ultra Jump starting in April. The new series will begin by taking readers back to Rikuo’s childhood, specifically during his elementary and middle school years. This exciting start to the story is sure to captivate fans.

If you’re not familiar with Rise of the Yokai Clan, the series was created by Shiibashi and first released in March 2008. Over the course of more than four years, it continued until concluding in December 2012, with a total of 25 volumes. The series also inspired an anime adaptation by Studio Deen in 2010, which was followed by a second season in 2011. However, it has been quiet on the Rise of the Yokai Clan front since then.

The supernatural shonen series follows the journey of Rikuo Nura, a young man who is one-quarter yokai and transforms into his demon form at night. Although he lives with his yokai grandfather, Rikuo resists the temptation to fully embrace his yokai nature, even though he is destined to become the next head of the Nura clan. Throughout the story, we see Rikuo grappling with his mixed heritage as he navigates a path that will allow him to both serve humanity and uphold the honor of his yokai bloodline.
To delve into Rise of the Yokai Clan, Viz Media has provided an English translation of the manga. Moreover, the anime series is currently available for streaming on Hulu. For those unfamiliar with the series, the official synopsis describes it as follows:
“Rikuo Nura is a unique being, being three-quarters human and one-quarter demon. He resides with his grandfather, the Nura clan head, in a mystical house full of spirits. Despite his reluctance to embrace his demonic heritage, Rikuo is destined to become the next clan head. As he grapples with his identity, he must navigate the challenges that arise in taking on his new role as the young master of the Nura house, as there are those who seek to oppose him.”
