The announcement was made during the USC Trojans vs Rice Owls’ NCAA football game on Saturday and was accompanied by a video introduction featuring the beloved main hero, Monkey D. Luffy. Adding to the festivities, the “Spirit of Troy” marching band showcased their One Piece fandom by performing popular anime songs, including the iconic “We Are!” and “Over the Top.” They also played the movie’s official theme song, “New Genesis.”
Toei Animation, the studio behind the film, shared a video recording of the event on their official Twitter account, allowing fans across the globe to join in the celebration.
One Piece Film: Red is the 15th movie in the One Piece franchise. The storyline of the film was described as follows:
Uta —the most beloved singer in the world. Renowned for concealing her own identity when performing, her voice has come to be described as “otherworldly.” Now, for the first time ever, Uta will herself to the world at a live concert. As the venue fills with all kinds of Uta fans —excited pirates, the Navy watching closely, and the Straw Hats led by Luffy who simply came to enjoy her sonorous performance —the voice that the whole world has been waiting for is about to resound. The story begins with the shocking fact that she is Shanks’ daughter.

The movie premiered in Japan on August 6. It became an instant hit with over 1 million tickets sold and over 2 billion yen earned during its first two days. As of now, the film is said to have amassed over 11 billion yen, becoming the top 10 highest earning anime film of all time in Japan.
One Piece Film: Red is directed by Goro Taniguchi, with screenplay by Tsutomu Kuroiwa. Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece, was the executive producer.
