Overlord fans, this one’s for you! The much-anticipated film covering the Holy Kingdom Arc of the Overlord series has been confirmed to hit theaters in Japan this year. The exciting announcement was made during a television special dedicated to the anime film project on January 1.
The film project was initially unveiled in a 2021 live special for the anime, creating a buzz among Overlord enthusiasts.
Overlord has been a fan-favorite since its debut as a light novel series in 2010. The story revolves around Momonga, an online game enthusiast who finds himself unexpectedly transported into the very game he loved. Now transformed into a formidable skeleton wizard, Momonga embarks on a quest to dominate this newly evolved gaming world.
The series was written by Kugane Maruyama and illustrated by so-bin. It inspired a manga adaptation by Satoshi Ōshio, with art by Hugin Miyama in 2014 and has been adapted into an anime television series adaptation by Madhouse in 2015. The success continued with subsequent seasons in 2018 and 2022, each gaining a dedicated following.
