First revealed during a special 2021 live event dedicated to the anime, the film is slated to hit theaters later this year.
Naoyuki Itou is returning to direct the movie. Key cast members are also set to reprise their roles, including Satoshi Hino as Ains, Yumi Hara as Albedo, and Masayuki Katou as Demiurge.
Overlord started as a light novel series written by Kugane Maruyama and illustrated by so-bin. It began serialization online in 2010 until it was published in print by Kadokawa’s Enterbrain in 2012.
The series inspired a TV anime adaption by Madhouse, with the first season premiering in July 2015.
Yen Press has been responsible for bringing the light novel series and the manga adaptation to North American readers. The story revolves around Momonga, an online game enthusiast who finds himself unexpectedly transported into the very game he loved. Now transformed into a formidable skeleton wizard, Momonga embarks on a quest to dominate this newly evolved gaming world.
With only two more volumes left to conclude the novels, the Overlord universe is poised for an unforgettable climax.
