Aniplus-Asia will premiere Rascal Does Not Dream of a Sister Venturing Out, the first of two sequel anime films based on Hajime Kamoshida’s Seishun Buta Yarō light novel series, on February 10.
The film premiered in Japan in June 2023. It made 175,648,924 yen (about $1.28 million) and sold 118,108 tickets in its first three days. Odex played the film in Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, and Vietnam from September to October 2023.
The sequel anime project adapts the franchise’s eighth and ninth novels, Rascal Does Not Dream of a Sister Venturing Out and Rascal Does Not Dream of a Knapsack Kid. The latter film premiered in Japan in December 2023. Odex released the film in Singapore on January 6, Thailand and the Philippines on January 13, and Malaysia on January 25.
Sōichi Masui led the project at CloverWorks. Masahiro Yokotani was also returning for composition and scripting, while Satomi Tamura returned as character designer. The first film’s theme song is a solo version of the previous television anime’s “Fukashigi no Karte” (Mysterious Chart) song by Kaede Azusagawa (voiced by Yurika Kubo).
Seishun Buta Yarō wa Bunny Girl-senpai no Yume wo Minai (Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai), a television anime based on the light novel series, premiered in Japan in October 2018 and broadcast 13 episodes. Aniplus-Asia broadcast a simulcast of the anime as it aired in Japan.
Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dreaming Girl (Seishun Buta Yarō wa Yume-Miru Shōjo no Yume wo Minai), an anime film based on the sixth and seventh light novel volumes in the franchise, premiered in Japan in June 2019. Aniplus-Asia exhibited the film in Southeast Asia.
