Sony Pictures Entertainment has just released the highly anticipated teaser trailer for the next installment in the Resident Evil franchise, “Resident Evil: Death Island.” This CG animated film is the follow-up to the hit film “Resident Evil: Vendetta” and promises to take viewers on a journey filled with intense action and heart-pumping suspense. Mark your calendars, as the film is set to premiere this summer.
Sony Pictures Entertainment is distributing the film worldwide excluding Japan, and it describes the story:
D.S.O. agent Leon S. Kennedy is on a mission to rescue Dr. Antonio Taylor from kidnappers, when a mysterious woman thwarts his pursuit. Meanwhile, B.S.A.A. agent Chris Redfield is investigating a zombie outbreak in San Francisco, where the cause of the infection cannot be identified. The only thing the victims have in common is that they all visited Alcatraz Island recently. Following that clue, Chris and his team head to the island, where a new horror awaits them.
Eiichirō Hasumi (Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, live-action Assassination Classroom) is directing the film, and Makoto Fukami (Psycho-Pass) is writing the screenplay.
“Resident Evil: Vendetta” made its debut in Japanese theaters in May 2017 and hit theaters in the United States and Canada in June of the same year. This film marks the third CG-animated film in the Resident Evil franchise, following “Resident Evil: Degeneration” (2008) and “Resident Evil: Damnation” (2012).
With a fresh and completely original story, “Resident Evil: Vendetta” boasts characters from various games in the series. CAPCOM’s Hiroyuki Kobayashi, known for his work on “Resident Evil 4” and “Sengoku Basara,” supervised the project. The English voice cast features Matthew Mercer as Leon S. Kennedy, Kevin Dorman as Chris Redfield, and Erin Cahill as Rebecca Chambers.
Takanori Tsujimoto, known for his work on “The Next Generation -Patlabor-“ and “Ultraman X“, directed a film at Marza Animation Planet with a screenplay written by Makoto Fukami, who has previously worked on “Psycho-Pass“ and “School-Live!”. The music for the film was composed by Kenji Kawai, who has worked on “Patlabor” and “Ghost in the Shell”. Takashi Shimizu, known for his work on “Ju-on” and the live-action version of “Kiki’s Delivery Service“, is credited as executive producer.
In July 2021, a CG anime series called Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness was released exclusively on Netflix worldwide and had four episodes.
Resident Evil Village is the eighth game in the Resident Evil series, which is a survival horror game made by CAPCOM. The game was released in May 2021 and can be played on different platforms such as PS4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC (Steam and Stadia).
