Spy x Family’s 2nd Cour Sets a New Record High for Time Shift Audience Rating

By Janiene LerioNovember 7, 2022

Pretty sure Anya’s cuteness has been affecting more and more people as each day passes because TV Tokyo’s President just announced that Spy x Family’s 2nd Cour garnered a 6% time shift audience rating after the first episode of the show, which is a record high for TV Tokyo.

Journalist Tadashi Sudo shared excerpts from a recent interview with TV Tokyo’s president on Twitter, revealing that Spy x Family continues to draw high audience ratings and that its second installment was the “best among all programs on all stations for the July 2022 season.” (Because the July quarter ends on October 2, the anime’s second part premiered on October 1 which means that it still belongs to the July quarter for statistical purposes.)

Interestingly, while the average audience rating for the broadcast is 1.8%, the number of people who record the show and watch it later (referred to as the “time shift audience”) is substantially greater. Sudo speculated that this could indicate that the anime’s current schedule is not optimal, as the rating climbs to 5.8% for later viewers. The opening broadcast of the second half received a 6% time shift viewership rating, a new high for TV Tokyo. The live viewing audience rating for the debut was 3.6%.

Spy x Family currently airs on Saturdays at 11:26pm JST.

The first half of the anime debuted on April 9. Crunchyroll is streaming the first half of the anime as it airs, as well as an English dub. The manga is being published in English by Viz Media. Shueisha’s MANGA Plus service is also publishing the manga in English. In September 2019, Viz Media added the manga to its app as part of its Shonen Jump subscription. The manga is also being printed by the corporation.
