Surely you’re not a stranger to one of Netflix’s most famous (if not, the most famous one to date) originals, Stranger Things. It’s the thriller fantasy drama that currently has four seasons and the series that basically gave Netflix fame. Stranger things is settling into its fifth and final season in 2024, and everybody is awaiting the final verdict of the cursed town of Hawkins.

However, the live-action drama is probably not the end for the legendary Netflix Original because recent reports have stated that this hit American series is getting an anime adaptation. Is that a yay? Or nay?

In the past year or two, Netflix has been continuing to up its game, especially with the anime releases and even its own anime adaptations. Many of these adaptations and originals are fan-approved and loved. But is it really wise to adapt an already established work into something new and challenging?

What’s on Netflix, a fan site,  broke the news, claiming to have learned about the anime production. If the rumors are true, an anime named Stranger Things Tokyo is in the works. The show is reported to have been in the works for “quite some time,” with the first rumors of its existence circulating in early 2021.

So far, Netflix has not made any formal statements about the rumored anime. Stranger Things creators, on the other hand, have already hinted about spin-offs. The Duffer Brothers increased their creative arrangement with Netflix this year, and it was there that they discussed Stranger Things spin-offs. The Duffer Brothers informed the Happy Sad Confused podcast at the time that the spin-off will be different from the original series. The project would be a “narrative that links to the Stranger Things universe, but it’s really about how we’re telling that story.”

Should the spin-off happen, a lot is to be expected as this would quite literally combine two worlds into one, much like the story of the series itself. Come to think of it, it does sound quite cool.
