The first movie, Sword Art Online -Progressive- Aria of a Starless Night, explores the development of a virtual reality game called ‘Sword Art Online‘. It has a massive multiplayer system and enhances the players’ experience. However, this seemingly innocent and fun game actually hides something sinister as told from Asuna Yuuki’s perspective. Asuna Yuuki is not actually interested in games. She was only convinced by her friend, Misumi, to join the Sword Art Online game as a distraction. Despite Asuna’s popularity in school and financial wealth, she was plagued by a controlling mother. Hence this is why she joined the VR game and sets out on a journey in clearing the Aincrad castle floors. Along the way, she struggles to cope with her new virtual reality.
