Something new has made its way to new and old Shounen Ai fans alike! A new anime show called Tadaima, Okaeri has been creating a buzz within the Shounen Ai Anime community because of its unique world setting. As announced last year an Omegaverse BL anime will be released this spring, and the avid readers of the manga are more than ecstatic, but the curious minds of anime-only fans have been piqued!
The manga follows the daily lives of Masaki Fujiyoshi, a stay-at-home spouse with low self-esteem, his elite salaryman husband Hiromu, and their two-year-old son Hikari. Together, they conquer life’s joys and sorrows, becoming more of a “family” with each passing day.
The manga was published in Fusion Product’s THE OMEGAVERSE PROJECT e-book anthology in 2016. In April 2019, Fusion Product published the fourth volume of the manga, Tadaima, Okaeri ーHitoyasumiー (I’m Home, Welcome Back ーBreatherー).
Those who have been following the story ever since it came out know what joy it is to follow Hikari’s little footsteps and Masaki’s quest to become a better partner and parent to their child. But the adaptation of Tadaima Okaeri from a manga to an anime is one that no one saw coming. However, with the change of the tides and times, this adaptation just opens a whole new world to those who are in dire need of something new to watch.
Exploring Omegaverse
Ichi Ichikawa’s Tadaima, Okaeri BL follows one common yet sophisticated theme in the BL community, Omegaverse. Omegaverse is uncharted territory to some, and may even remain a mystery to many. There are even wrong stereotypes and perceptions when it comes to stories in this genre, but for those who enjoy reading it, Omegaverse remains a world full of bliss (that is when you’re reading the non-toxic ones, but we’ll get to that later).
Omegaverse is a fascinating and varied subgenre that has grown in popularity within the field of speculative literature, particularly fanfiction. The Omegaverse, which originated in the fan-created universe of Wolf’s Rain and has gained popularity in the world of fanfiction, depicts an alternate reality in which dynamic social structures and complicated biology redefine traditional gender roles. In this post, we’ll go over the essential information about the Omegaverse to assist readers traverse this complicated and captivating literary universe.
Understanding the Omegaverse begins with getting familiar with its specialized nomenclature. The main characters in this universe are divided into three categories: Alpha, Beta, and Omega. Alphas are dominating and frequently have great leadership characteristics, whilst Betas are regarded as the typical, maintaining a moderate ground. Omegas, on the other hand, are submissive and have the potential to get pregnant.
One of the Omegaverse’s distinguishing characteristics is its complex mating dynamics. Alphas and Omegas are physiologically predisposed to form pairings, with Alphas looking for compatible Omega partners. The process involves the production of pheromones, which signify the start of heat in Omegas and ruts in Alphas, resulting in a powerful and primitive bond between the characters.
While many essential features are similar, Omegaverse stories’ world-building can vary substantially. Some authors strictly stick to the established dynamics, while others incorporate supernatural aspects, future locations, or even different historical eras. The Omegaverse concept’s adaptability enables a broad range of creative variations.
Despite its popularity, the Omegaverse is not without controversy. Critics claim that it perpetuates damaging stereotypes and reinforces inflexible gender norms. Furthermore, the genre frequently addresses graphic and mature subjects, which may be inappropriate for some audiences. Readers must approach Omegaverse works with a clear grasp of their tastes and comfort levels.
Tadaima, Okaeri, and Comfort Omegaverse Stories
Just like any other subgenres in BL or Shounen Ai, Omegaverse has its fair share of toxicity to give out to the world. However, there are also stories like Tadaima, Okaeri which make the whole subgenre tolerable and worth the read.
Omegaverse in itself is already a unique world. It is a universe where nothing else matters aside from the secondary genders of the characters involved. Sometimes, this can lead to cliche circumstances and stagnant plots, but I think everybody agrees that when a child is involved, that changes.
If you follow through, you will remember that Tadaima, Okaeri follows the story of Hikari and his family. Hikari, in Japanese, means light, and it is mentioned throughout the manga that Masaki chose this very name for his son because that is what he meant to them. He is their light. Masaki came from an unpleasant past, and this family was his chance to make things right. Omegas are usually seen as outcasts in society—their only purpose being reproduction. That is how Masaki felt his whole life. He ran away from his family in pursuit of something far greater than what he had been branded and treated as his whole life, and in that quest, he found Hiromu, his fated pair, and together they built a life surrounded by love and light.
Contrary to what many believe, there are several Omegaverse BLs that revolve around this very plot. A fun-filled, light-hearted storyline where we can see how unique families like the Fujiyoshis handle different adversaries faced by couples just like them. Though there are times when things get pretty tough, there will always be light at the end of the tunnel—sometimes, that light is a cute little kid like Hikari! Spoiler alert, Hikari has a younger sibling, Hinata—her name means Sunshine, and that she is!
Why Tadaima, Okaeri is the Show You Must Watch
Reason number one: adorable babies! Come on, anyone who sees babies on shows, especially the super cute ones definitely will love this show because Hikari is just the cutest! Even his Papa Hiromu agrees! He’s always so jolly and he just is the epitome of light and love! Even his neighbors adore him!
For those of you who adored and fell in love with Gakkuen Babysitters, Tadaima, Okaeri is the next thing to watch out for! Not only will you get to see Hikari a lot during the whole series, but you will also come to understand the important dynamics of omegaverse which may be useful to break certain misconceptions you might have about the genre.
Another reason why Tadaima, Okaeri is a must-watch is that it represents a part of the LGBTQIA+ community that remains a somehow sensitive topic for discussion: same-sex couples with babies. Putting the plot and the subgenre aside, this show gives people an idea of what it looks like to be raising a child (or children) as a same-sex couple, which is an important matter to take into consideration.
The adaptation of Ichi Ichikawa’s Tadaima, Okaeri gives hope and encouragement to those who are considering their options when it comes to raising a child. Many still fail to recognize the fact that couples can raise a child no matter their gender or sexuality, and it will turn out just fine. The adaptation of this manga into an Anime reaches a new set of audiences, which, in turn, will touch more hearts.
Tadaima, Okaeri, and Omegaverse in general provide an intriguing and thought-provoking look at human (and non-human) interactions, biology, and society systems. As readers navigate this complicated literary terrain, they must have a good comprehension of the vocabulary, mating dynamics, social structures, and the flexibility of world-building variants. Whether you’re a long-time fan or new to the genre, the Omegaverse welcomes readers into a world where imagination knows no limitations, challenging conventional beliefs and opening doors to new and inventive narrative possibilities.
