The Masterful Cat Is Depressed Again Today, a manga by Hitsuji Yamada about a young woman and her giant talking cat, is getting a TV anime adaptation in 2023. The anime’s official website and Twitter account revealed the second promotional video on May 29, 2023, featuring the opening and ending theme songs.
The video features the opening theme song of the anime, “Ureu Kado niwa Fuku Kitaru” by somei. It also introduces the main cast and their characters. Yui Ishikawa voices Saku Fukuzawa, a young woman who lives with her giant cat Yukichi. Hiroki Yasumoto voices Yukichi, who can talk and do various things. The other cast members include Katsuyuki Konishi as Kaoru Orizuka, M.A.O as Rio Nishina, and Ai Kakuma as Yuri Shibasaki.
The anime is directed by Susumu Kudo and Katsumasa Yokomine at GoHands, with scripts by Tamazo Yanagi. The anime will air on TBS, MBS and other channels starting from July 7, 2023.
Story
The Masterful Cat Is Depressed Again Today follows the daily life of Saku, a young woman who works long hours and lives alone with her cat, Yukichi. Yukichi, however, is not an ordinary house cat. For one, the temperamental feline towers over Saku. He can also talk and do various things, such as cooking, cleaning, and shopping. Saku may not have her act together yet, but at least she has Yukichi!
Manga
The manga began serialization on Kodansha’s Suiyōbi no Sirius online manga section on the Nico Nico Seiga website in August 2018. It is also published in Monthly Shōnen Sirius since October 2021. As of February 9, 2023, seven volumes have been released. Seven Seas Entertainment licensed the manga for English release in North America.
