Restart is a bold term for an Anime series, and it may mean a lot of things. Through the years, many other different anime series and adaptations like Hunter x Hunter had remakes and restarts, while others, like Attack on Titan, changed studios, but still stuck to the storyline. Though it may not be clear as of the moment, the word ‘restart’ may be the perfect word to describe the future of the anime series Toilet-bound Hanako Kun.
The official website for Iro Aida’s Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun (Jibaku Shonen Hanako-kun) television anime adaptation revealed on Thursday that the project is “restarting.” The site debuted a new visual and began streaming a teaser trailer including footage from the previous anime paired with a piano interpretation of the anime’s ending theme song “Tiny Light” by Akari Kito.

The first anime adaptation of the manga debuted in Japan in January 2020. There were 12 episodes in total. The anime was broadcast by Funimation with an English dub and English subtitles.
Yen Press is releasing the manga digitally, and it describes the story:
“Hanako-san, Hanako-san…are you there?”
At Kamome Academy, rumors abound about the school’s Seven Mysteries, one of which is Hanako-san. Said to occupy the third stall of the third-floor girls’ bathroom in the old school building, Hanako-san grants any wish when summoned. Nene Yashiro, an occult-loving high school girl who dreams of romance, ventures into this haunted bathroom…but the Hanako-san she meets there is nothing like she imagined! Kamome Academy’s Hanako-san…is a boy!
Aida debuted the comic in 2014 in Square Enix’s G Fantasy magazine. On August 26, Square Enix released the manga’s 18th collected book volume. On October 4, Yen Press issued the 16th volume.
