Rumiko Takahashi’s Urusei Yatsura released its second full promotional video for the anime. The anime’s opening song, “AIUE” (A-B-C-D), and the ending song “Tokyo Shandy Rendevous,” were both revealed in the video. Both songs were performed by MAISONdes. The opening song features artists Minami and SAKURAmoti, while the ending song features virtual singer Kaf (known for their hit song Phony) and the produced by vocaloid producer and music creator Tsumiki (ツミキ).
The anime will run for half a year without breaks for two cours (a quarter of a year). The anime will adapt selected stories from the manga and last for four cours, or a full year but not in order. To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the manga’s publisher Shogakukan, the anime will air in the Noitama programming block on Fuji TV and other channels.

Rumiko Takahashi (Ranma ½ and Inuyasha) first published the manga in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday from 1978 to 1987. The manga was adapted into an anime television series from October 1981 to March 1986 by Kitty Films and Fuji TV. The series ran for 195 episodes with each episode lasting 30-minutes. The television series, OVAs, and five films were released in North America with English subtitles and dubbed by AnimeEigo. The release included comprehensive notes that allowed audience to understand the many cultural references and jokes in the series.
The manga was released in North America by Viz Media under the titles Lum and The Return of Lum in the 1990s but dropped the series after 9 volumes. Viz Media re-licensed the manga in 2019 and began an omnibus edition under the original title Urusei Yatsura and new translations.

Urusei Yatsura is set to premiere on October 13, 2022, with the schedules and channels posted on their official website. The anime will also be available to stream on Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Disney+ among others.

- Mamoru Miyano (In/Spectre’s Kurou) as Shoutarou Mendou
- Wataru Takagi (Cyberpunk: Edgerunners’ Pilar) as Cherry
- Miyuki Sawashiro (Wotakoi’s Hanako) as Sakura
- Kana Hanazawa (Cells at Work’s Red Blood Cell) as Ran
- Katsuyuki Konishi (Prison School’s Gakuto) as Rei
- Saori Hayami (Kakegurui’s Yumeko) as Oyuki
- Shizuka Ishigami (Overlord’s Tia) as Benten
- Hiroshi Kamiya (Attack on Titan’s Levi) as Ataru Moroboshi
Takahiro Kamei (episode director on Fire Force, Jojo Bizarre Adventure) will serve as series director alongside Masaru Yokoyama (Classroom of the Elite, Horimiya) who is the music composer.
