In light of the release of Vinland Saga‘s Season 2, the anime director, Shuhei Yabuta apologizes for not including Snake’s backstory.

The manga creator, Makoto Yukimura, submitted the story of Snake’s backstory to Yabuta. He also teased that it will be featured on Season 2. However, due to circumstances, Yabuta cut it off in the final production.

Yabuta took on to Twitter to apologize to fans for not meeting the expectations. He had hoped to create a short story exploring the past of characters such as Snake. This is in addition to the main story itself, however, it was scrapped. Yabuta and the production team decided to focus on the main story itself instead.

Episodes 16 and 17 are supposed to be allotted for Snake’s backstory. Yabuta cited his inexperience for not being able to accomplish it.

Yabuta asked fans to continue supporting Vinland Saga despite the situation.

MAPPA

Makoto Yukimura, voiced his support of Yabuta. He also apologized to fans for making them expect of Snake’s backstory without knowing the production side of things. Yabuta also elaborated that he had planned to draw Snake’s backstory, but it is not easy to produce an episode.

Yukimura assured the fans that Snake’s backstory may be released in some form in the future.

He also advised Yabuta and the production staff to avoid straining themselves.

Vinland Saga Season 2

Vinland Saga Season 2 premiered last January 10, 2023. It was produced by MAPPA, the same studio where popular anime like Jujutsu Kaisen, Attack on Titan, and Chainsaw Man came from. Episode 16 recently came out in April 25. Season 2 will be having 24 episodes.

It is currently streaming on Netflix worldwide, and on Crunchyroll in the US.

Season 2 tells a story of Einar, who had witnessed his home being invaded twice. He then became a slave in Denmark. The last words of Einar’s mother keeps him going.

He was then sold off to Ketil, who happened to be kind as he promised Einar freedom in exchange for working on the fields. There, Einar met Thorfinn, who had now become a dejected slave. Einar and Thorfinn both work for their freedom and face their inner demons. Will they be able to find hope and redemption in a cruel world rampant with war?
