Fans will be excited to hear that Vinland Saga will be receiving a 2nd season! The wait is finally over! An official trailer is released as well, revealing the crucial details.
It is slated to premiere in January 9, 2023 on select Japanese channels: Tokyo MX, BS 11, Gifu Broadcasting, and AT-X. It will also stream on Netflix and Crunchyroll.
Season 2 will also be animated by MAPPA Studio, known for producing famous anime like Attack on Titan, Jujutsu Kaisen, Chainsaw Man, and many more. Season 1 was previously produced by Wit Studio. It has aired 24 episodes from July 8 to December 30, 2019.
Vinland Saga Season 2 Synopsis
Thorfinn was bought by a land owner, Ketil, to become a slave to work on a farm located in the southern part of Denmark. Thorfinn met Einar, a fellow slave like him. Through Einar, Thorfinn then managed to face the sins he had committed in the past. He also began to find meaning in his life.
A new king of England, Canute, made it his goal to expand his territory for the “promised land”.

The trailer depicted Thorfinn and Einar’s encounter with each other. They are both slaves who work for Ketil’s farm. Thorfinn is despondent a first, weighed by his past actions. When he spent time with Einar, he began to have the courage to face punishment from his sins. He also managed to regain his drive to fight back.
On the other hand, the new King Canute of England has grand plans of the “promised land”, all the while the fighting still continues.
The opening song is also present in the trailer, “River” by Anonymouz.

Vinland Saga Season 1 Recap
Set in 11th century Europe, Thorfinn had heard stories of the land named Vinland when he was young. It is where there is no war, which contrasts to what he is used to. He was born in an Icelandic village, where his father was murdered by a viking mercenary crew. He is raised to become a formidable fighter, and war is constant in his life.
True enough, the war between England and the Danes are becoming worse. Viking mercenaries savors the war that is raging on – taking pleasure in fights. Despite the increasing number of deaths, the vikings seemed to view the chaos as paradise. Amidst all this, Thorfinn made it his goal to avenge his father’s death by killing Askeladd, the leader of the mercenary crew Thorfinn is in. Askeladd is responsible for murdering Thorfinn’s father.

Vinland Saga Manga Background
Makoto Yukimura is the author and illustrator of the Vinland Saga manga. It serialized first on Kodansha’s Weekly Shounen Magazine in April 2005. Later, it was transferred to Kodansha’s seinen monthly magazine, Monthly Afternoon on December 2005.
Kodansha Comics published Volume 1 and 2 under the Shounen Magazine Comics imprint, before it was switched to the Afternoon Comics imprint. As of May 2022, there have been 26 volumes released.
Kodansha USA licensed the manga into an English publication, releasing the 1st volume in paperback and e-book in October 2013. As of December 2021, there have been 12 volumes available.
