As one of the anime featured in the Winter 2023 lineup, Kakfa Asagiri and Sango Harukawa’s mystery manga-turned-anime, Bungo Stray Dogs Season 4 is definitely one of the big adaptations of 2023.
The fourth season of the anime adaptation of the supernatural mystery manga, Bungo Stray Dogs, created by Kakfa Asagiri and illustrated by Sango Harukawa, is one of the titles coming in the Winter 2023 season that has a huge following and loads of excitement about its premiere. Bungo Stray Dogs season 4 premiered on January 4, 2023, and follows the narrow failure of Fyodor Dostoevsky’s plan to upset the balance in Yokohama by having the Port Mafia and Armed Detective Agency engage in what would eventually become an all-out war.
Now that you’ve gotten the gist of what the fourth season is about, let’s dive into the events of the season deeper, and learn what Fyodor’s main goal is.

As we all know, the Port Mafia and the Armed Detective Agency or the ADA are two of the main gangs of Yokohama. The Port Mafia rules the night, the evil, and the chaos, while the ADA or the Armed Detective Agency rules the light and maintains the goodness. Though technically these two agencies are in conflict with each other, their conflict retains the balance in Yokohama, and for the past seasons, we’ve seen many try but fail to destroy that balance because of the formidable forces of both of the agencies.
But with the season still in its earlier stages, there isn’t really much that can be said, but here’s what we know so far:
The first Bungo Stray Dogs season 4 trailer is an 80-second whirlwind that quickly reveals the most important plot line for the upcoming season – the Armed Detective Agency is being targeted by a group known as the Decay of the Angel, and to make matters worse, there’s a conspiracy to frame the agency.
Ranpo Edogawa’s deductive skills are put to the ultimate test when the Armed Detective Agency’s reputation is tarnished and its members are hunted for unknown reasons. Despite being imprisoned, Dostoevsky appears to play an important role in the events of the upcoming season and appears prominently in both trailers. It’s clear that he’s not done causing havoc in Yokohama.
For those who need a small refresher course on Fyodor Dostoevsky, he was the main villain of the series movie installment, Dead Apple and his ability is Crime and Punishment and is a part of the Decay of the Angel. It seems as though for this season, he’s come back stronger than ever.
To combat Dostoevsky’s plan, the ADA’s best detective jumps into action. Ranpo Edogawa appears as a central character in both trailers, investigating the conspiracy against the Armed Detective Agency. While the Decay of the Angel is undoubtedly a threat to the Armed Detective Agency this season, they must also contend with the Hunting Dogs, the military police’s most powerful unit. The Armed Detective Agency is without its most important member following Dazai’s arrest by these mysterious operatives, which serves to fracture them just enough for their enemies to feel confident enough to pounce. But that doesn’t mean they’re losing.
What happened to the Armed Detective Agency?

Currently, the Armed Detective Agency is out of order.
The Anime’s fourth season is starting the adaptation based on Chapter 54 of the Bungo Stray Dogs manga. It occurs right after the events of Season 3. Someone dressed as a stuffed animal is shown visiting Doppo Kunikida in prison on the following pages. Kunikida was unfortunately involved in a little girl’s suicide bombing in Bungo Stray Dogs season 3, and he is being held responsible for her death despite telling the authorities what happened.
According to Ranpo’s explanation, the grenades used by the little girl have the same model number as those used by the Armed Detective Agency, and the evidence points to Kunikida despite the lack of witnesses. However, Ranpo realizes that it was all a trap set by Dostoevsky and a particularly nasty one. Ranpo is determined to clear Kunikida’s name because he believes he is partly to blame for the current situation.
He blames himself for not seeing Dostoevsky’s trap in Bungo Stray Dogs season 3, which he expresses in the first Bungo Stray Dogs season 4 trailer. Ranpo’s dominance in the trailers, as well as the source of the murder accusations trailing the Armed Detective Agency, is clear from the way this new arc is introduced in the manga; however, these introductory pages have yet to detail exactly what kind of trial awaits.
Basically, Ranpo is set on freeing Kunikida, but every time he gets too close to the evidence, it vanishes, or the one responsible for crucial evidence dies. Many mysteries need to be solved for the upcoming season, and these mysteries are what the fans await. The Armed Detective Agency is referred to as a criminal in the trailers for the upcoming fourth season of Bungo Stray Dogs, so the problem does not end with Kunikida’s arrest. The falling deceased, the novelist’s killer, Kunikida’s arrest, and the subsequent arrival of the Decay of Angels all come together in this section of the Bungo Stray Dogs story.
